Internship
Stipend based. Learn about plant materials, soil, and wildlife support. This role will give you experience on a variety of plant materials, design techniques, and environmental management.
This on-site role will follow all required guidelines for safety as determined by ASM, the City of Chicago, and CPS if applicable.
Skills needed:
• Ability to learn an instructed task and repeat it until proficient
• Interest and willingness to work outside in varied weather
• Interest and willingness to perform repeated, sometimes tedious and meticulous work in support of nature spaces
• Physical flexibility to work with hand tools, large garden tools, in soil, kneeling and bending
• Attention to varied, fine details
• Basic organizational and ownership for space/tasks at hand
Task Description:
• Manage a specific nature space on-site at Keeler Gardens, being responsible for all work in that defined area.
• Learn and perform basic horticutural tasks such as weeding, cutting flowers and branches, clean-up, watering, digging, and planting.
• Assist with soil management including examining soil for health, applying powder or liquid additives or compost, and installing mulch.
• Advanced opportunities may include projects, such as monitoring spaces with log book entries, feeding wildlife, facilities management, and other simple projects.
