#DrummingUpPower is HANA Center’s youth empowerment program where teens learn up to four different instruments used in pungmul, or Korean traditional drumming. In addition to drumming, teens will learn how we can each use our own culture and the arts to build and grow the power of our communities together. By the end of the program, teens will perform in a final drumming showcase and create a visual or performing arts piece based on their research around issues impacting themselves and other young people in the city. Young leaders will realize that we can use our drums and arts to fight for justice and human rights with “HANAsori,” or “one sound” in Korean.

#IncreaseThePeace is an advanced apprenticeship program that will teach teens the basics in community organizing. By the end of the program student will have conducted 3 digital or independent campaigns either on community safety, mutual aid, or hosting virtual information sessions on community issues. The young leaders will also have virtual power meetings with elected officials. The conversation will depend on what issues are most important to the students and the students will commit the elected official to further collaboration.

In Every Girl is a CEO, girls will learn what it takes to be a leader in the workplace and gain valuable on the job experience. Girls will learn the skills and gain the connections they need to obtain a job while still in high school and how to build the career they want after high school. Girls will work with their mentors to plan from start to finish each of the workplace experiences and learn how to conduct valuable research on how to find a job and build the career, and the lifestyle they want.

Take your next step in STEAM education by diving into the world of electronics. Participants will complete hands-on projects to gain experience using equipment unique in Maker Labs. If you are interested in building circuits, working with electronics, or coding, then this is the program for you!

Teens enrolled in A&A sports will strive for excellence in a variety of sports, through a unique developmental and progressive system of fitness training. Through participation in the program, young athletes will be equipped with all the physical and mental skills necessary to achieve a life of fitness, health and sporting excellence.

This SAT prep and college readiness program is for rising juniors and seniors who need to take the SAT in August. The program will be a Friday only intensive SAT test prep course. In a cohort teens will also learn more about good study habits, time management, and paying for college. Preference will be given to teens who have already taken the SAT and need support to re-take the exam. Teens who complete the program will have the opportunity to the take the SAT virtually in August.

This is much of what you will experience in Advanced Bike Repair and Safety at West Town Bikes. Program will meet at West Town Bikes and travel outdoors for program activities. Earn, learn and be active on a bike this summer!

Have you worked with clay before either on the wheel or hand building? If so and you want to continue to advance your skills, this might be a great program for you. In this program, teens will learn more advanced throwing and hand building techniques as well as the chemistry behind glazes and how to load kilns.

Apprentices will respond to prompts and writing activities to explore their personal spaces and communities through portraiture, still-life studies, and street photography. Class discussion and virtual visits from working photographers will give the apprentices more insight into the Chicago photo community and the possibilities of the medium.

In Advanced Drawing and Painting you will create a portfolio of exceptional works of art. You will learn to use acrylic paint, pastels, charcoal, scratchboard, ink and mixed media. You will have an opportunity to make new friends and renew old friendships.Topics will include portraiture, the figure, the city and social justice. At the end of the program your work will be exhibited in a virtual gallery, and you will have a portfolio that can be used for college and scholarship applications, as well as AP Studio Art portfolios.

Interested in a career in cosmetology? Want to learn how to run a small business? The Advanced Hair Techniques program functions as a salon apprenticeship where teens learn the basic entrepreneurship and management skills needed to start and run a beauty salon. Beyond the entrepreneurship component, teens also function as stylist apprentices in order to learn the technical components of hair care as well as the interpersonal skills necessary for positive client relations. Teens end the program with a thorough understanding of the salon industry and the basic skills necessary to begin a career in cosmetology.

The advance apprenticeship program is designed for teens with some previous STEM experience and have interest in careers in medicine, engineering, science and mathematics. Teens have opportunities to implement independent projects, participate in team activities involving special topics/problems related to health sciences, and showcase their products. Virtual field trips, games, interactions with professionals and computer aided activities are part of the program. Malcolm X College with its state of the art facility provides the virtual studio college environment for this unique summer experience. Teens will be eligible for a stipend upon successful completion of the program. Eligible teens will have opportunities to earn early college credits.

Tumbling into Fitness introduces teens to tumbling skills that include conditioning and flexibility exercises and strength training. Teens also study nutrition and learn to create healthy meal plans for themselves and their families. Teens work together to plan and execute a "Family Fitness Night" as a culmination of all they learn - a night of games and health exhibits for their friends and families.

From operating video cameras to script writing to editing, teen apprentices learn all of the essentials for making their own short movies. The program begins with technical workshops on how to make their films look professional and slick. Apprentices then participate in brainstorming sessions where they pitch their own ideas for short films. Once in production, teens write scripts, act, shoot, direct, and then edit their ideas into finished films.

You will be engaged through building your artistic skills while building a genuine comradery through constant communication in meetings. This art program is sure to give you a friendly and satisfying experience!

Remote internship, stipend based. This internship program is designed for aspiring Advanced Theater Teens to improve on their skills by being an active part of The Miracle Center’s virtual theater experience beyond the stage. In this role, the candidates will learn about administrative operations, leadership roles in organizing and communications for the Actors/Singers, Dancers and Tech team. Essential Job Functions 1. Assist Instructors in organizing and preparing weekly theatrical projects 2. Serve as leaders in group and production activities 3. Assist with weekly teen rehearsals and project schedules 4. AfriCaribbean ArtsConnections teens will explore the cultural traditions of Africa and the Caribbean through dance, drumming, and wearable art projects they will create, via our Zoom meet-up work structure this summer. This dynamic and high-energy program focuses on dance technique and choreography while also incorporating traditional drumming and costume creation.

This Afro-Caribbean Jazz Ensemble program provides the opportunity to expand on the fundamentals of the Jazz and Afro-Latin traditions of the Caribbean. The Afro-Caribbean Jazz Ensemble is an introduction to the next level of concepts that are essential for teens looking into World Music performance.

Teens will study improvisation, sketch comedy writing and stand-up comedy. Explore the fundamentals of improvisation, short form and scenic exercises. Teens will learn brainstorming techniques for various styles of sketch comedy writing. They will learn how to craft stories from their own personal experiences and joke structure for a standup comedy or storytelling act.

Join AIM Studio and learn the fundamental skills of rhythmic styles of dance remotely! Teens learn to use dance to highlight violence and other issues facing them in their communities. Utilizing the skills they develop through AIM Studio, teens enjoy multiple opportunities to give back to the community through performances and service.

Learn about new advances in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, nuclear, and biofuels through working with scientists from the University of Chicago and Argonne National Labs. Students learn about the importance of battery technology to make renewable energy sources more viable, and about the challenges of communicating the potential of new scientific discoveries through the production of an Energy Slam event that is open to the public.

This remote internship will be stipend-based this summer. Make a positive impact improving your neighborhood and city by serving as a Chicago Youth Service Corps virtual intern through After School Matters at the Altgeld Park Branch Library! This summer, you’ll be able to pursue your passions, foster leadership skills, identify friends and mentors plus help support the library’s efforts to present continuous learning, cultural engagement and summer enrichment opportunities for all ages.

American Sign Language Training will focus on learning phrases in ASL. You will also learn about deaf culture.

Learn to create 2D and 3D animated characters, scenes and backgrounds. Your creations would be ready to then be used in video games, short stories or anime. All levels of drawing and animation are welcome to apply!

Are you interested in learning more about how mobile apps are created? Does computer science interest you? Will you like to know differences between UI and UX and other app dev careers and professions? The App Dev for Social Impact will introduce computer programming using block based programming language for android. We will learn fundamental concepts, including logic, functions, data structures and program design while designing and programming a functional mobile app that addresses a social justice issue. The project will end with a showcase of Android applications developed by all teens in the project.

My program is focused on teen exposure to the apparel production industry. Teens will learn to design/interpret designs, draft patterns, grade patterns and sew clothing fit for the Ready-to-Wear or Custom Tailoring market.

The Arab American Spoken Word and Hip Hop Program is designed to cultivate young leaders who are comfortable addressing community and youth issues through writing, performance, and civic engagement. In addition to spoken word and hip hop instruction, our program fosters leadership and professional development; personal and cross-cultural communication skills; and critical thinking and social justice awareness. Most workshops and discussions will be led by the youth participants in an effort to promote leadership, facilitation skills, and a program environment that is youth-led and adult-guided. Youth select the themes that they would like to address and explore these themes through open discussions, documentaries, youth-led presentations, and relevant field trips. Youth then create original spoken word poems around these issues, edit their works through peer and instructor critiques, and perform before a live audience.

Join us as we engage in programming microcontrollers virtually and physically. This project will engage in concepts of computer science with arduino programming language as well as understand physics concepts. Do not miss out as we dive into coding and engage in data collection through sensors.

Our program uses teen created artwork and experiences to catalyze and deepen neighborhood relationships. Through a series of hands-on studio projects, teens practice drawing, painting, and mixed media skills. For inspiration, students get to visit Chicago artist studios and gallery exhibits. They also take their skills and inspiration out in the community to create art that brings the community together and makes a meaningful impact. In addition to creating community, teens gain hands on experience facing an entrenched problem within a community, and learn first hand that change is possible. In a respectful and nurturing environment, they put their research and new skills to work to develop creative strategies to face challenges.

If you want the experience of being an artist apprentice working with design Pros, this is the place to be. Work on illustrations and fine art on wood surfaces or paper.

The Artist Development Music Program empowers young aspiring artists to become independent and capable professional working musicians and artists through instruction in the various aspects and genres of music including vocal and ear training. This customized program enhances the artist's skills and talents and opens up new artistic possibilities for vocalists or instrumentalists seeking to elevate their passion in the music industry. Each session presents a lesson that contributes to the final product and each teen's personal artistry. The final performance offers an opportunity for the participants to demonstrate their music ability and overall growth in the program.

Virtual: Become an active member of a leadership council run by teens, for teens! In the ASM Leadership Council, teens engage in leadership development workshops, exchange ideas, plan events, develop projects. You will explore Crewed Missions from the early NASA Mercury program to the current SpaceX flights and investigate what it is to be an astronaut. As a member of our Astro crew, you will learn how to identify celestial objects/navigate the skies, use telescopes and participate in joint observation sessions while working in teams . By the end of the program, you will be prepared to share and present your gained Astronomical knowledge to the ASM community. NOTE: All applicants are required to submit a short essay on their interest in Astronomy and why they would like to be part of this very popular program prior to interview. Due to Covid protocols, a hybrid of virtual and live classroom environment may be offered.

Audio Broadcasting explores the ins and outs of audio production Recording instruments and voices, post-production and foley for film, music production using hardware and software, and live sound production for public address (PA) system.

Would you like to become an electrical engineer? The Audio Electronics program introduces teens to electrical theory and practice. Apprentices learn basic electronics, basic soldering, metering skills, theory and practice of electrical audio concepts, and real-world repair. The curriculum teaches logic and practical workplace skills, and focuses on the successful completion of different projects.

Advanced electronics teens conceive and build their own studio mixing console from the ground up. Students are challenged to consider design concepts such as gain structure, impedance matching, equalizer design, summing mixers, proper power supply construction, and balanced outputs. Teens leave the program with an advanced understanding of the core concepts of electrical engineering theory and practice.

audioWERKS Apprentices will produce music using an all-digital platform. Youth apprentices will learn the technological aspects of the music industry by producing music using tan all-digital platform; they will learn English proficiency (song writers will participate in Literature Lab) and creative art by becoming acquainted with the five elements of hip-hop (Dj'ing, Graffiti, Break dance, MC’ing & knowledge-understanding) and the youth will learn the entrepreneurial aspects of the music industry. The entrepreneurial aspect of audioWERKS will allow the Youth apprentices to build their confidence in expressing oneself through music; and to collaborate with peers and instructor in creating a body of work for distribution.

This program focuses on exposure to Urban Agriculture, environmental/food justice, economics, health and ecology. Teens will learn about the growing cycle, nutrition, food preparation, facility operation and maintenance, project management, construction, leadership, entrepreneurship, storytelling and civic engagement, through weekly activities that include, presentations, daily journaling, and hands-on gardening projects.

Keep the pre-Hispanic tradition of Aztec Ceremonial Dance alive and use it to know yourself better, stay fit, harmonious and balanced. Participants learn traditional Aztec dances, ceremonial songs, cultural concepts and crafts while building community and gaining new confidence, career readiness skills and a support group of friends. Participants engage with the program remotely and achieve independent projects and practices at home as well as upload weekly short practice videos on Google classroom to allow assessment of skill growth. Cultural crafts this summer will include friendship bracelets, Tonalpohualli t-shirt and a codex-like art project highlighting life accomplishments. Apprenticeship program welcomes all participants. Advanced apprenticeship program seeks participants with dance experience.

In this program the teens will learn the basics of sanitation, ingredient function, proper kitchen tool uses, and measurements. They will be working on baking techniques, packaging, and presentation. This program not only focuses on baking, but also on entrepreneurship in the baking industry. This program will run remotely during this summer program session.

Band Techniques is designed for aspiring teens who wish to gain experience in marching band. This curriculum is designed to prepare young leaders for teaching music and marching through the process of learning an entire marching show including music, body moves and marching fundamentals and techniques. This will expose these teens to technical exercises, warm up routines and performance charts that will challenge each individual and develop them during the program. Teens will learn how to collaborate, use team building skills and goal setting skills while learning to play a musical instrument. During the sessions since we will have a lot of new teens that never played before, we will teach a lot of traditional drum techniques. For the students who are not beginners we will do modern drum techniques. For the wind instrument players that are not beginners we will gave them experience on trying new instruments and focus on learning more music with an uptempo feel.

Join the Bandwith - Hope Jr. Junior Drumline Program and learn percussion instruction and ensemble performance experience. Teens learn the history of American Drumline culture, as well as the experience of setting and working toward individual and communal goals as we prepare for our culminating performance. This program offers teens access to one of the many opportunities to be musically expressive, as well as to be part of Chicago's cultural fabric.

This program will provide an orientation into a career filled with unlimited potential, one that can propel you in many directions as you may become a confident and successful professional. This program will consist of an introduction to the fundamentals of Barbering. Students will be introduced to the ever-growing,ever-evolving, ever-changing and fascinating hair industry.Students will be introduced to new and current techniques, new products and a variety of job opportunities. Students will learn basic personal grooming methods as well as life skills and how to present a strong professional image. Students will also be introduced to knowing how to build your own business. Students will learn how to market themselves as an entrepreneur in the barbering profession

This Basketball Officiating Internship at Gately is the chance for teens with IHSA experience to officiate actual grade school basketball games! Get a jump on your work experience while earning money while working around your academic schedule.

Boxing Out Negativity empowers youth ages 14+ to realize the best in themselves, using boxing as the hook for a program that elicits character development and civic responsibility through training, mentorship, motivational discussions, and community engagement. This summer we expect our programming to include at-home video workouts and team discussions and, to the extent allowed by state and local regulations, bike rides and in-person workouts. At the conclusion of the program youth will submit a log of their activities along with a brief reflection essay.

Stipend Based. Helix Interns will serve as members of our Helix Chicago and Helix Cafe staff. The Helix Business Internship will be a hands-on internship where participants will learn what it means to be a business owner and entrepreneur in 2021. Business Beyond the Game is a program created to shine light on the many jobs and careers within the sports industry. This program should bring awareness to the many possibilities "beyond the game".

Stipend based. CAI’s Children and Youth Programs focus on three major areas: academic support; arts, culture, and enrichment; and health and wellness. These three areas are incorporated into the summer camp and into the youth summer internship program. The Health and Culture Summer Camp at CAI incorporates two culture and arts activities: Passport to the World, Cambodian music, and storytelling. The Passport to the World introduces camp participants to different countries and cultures across the globe through their participation in experiential activities, such as learning history, language, crafts, music, dance, cooking, and others. Every week, each summer intern is responsible for creating a week-long (about 1-1.5 hours/day) activity plan focusing on one culture or country for six to eight summer camp participants. Thus, each summer intern will plan and implement activities pertaining to seven to eight different countries/cultures; and camp participants will have opportunities to learn 30 or more countries/cultures during the summer. Job description for our Summer Intern is 1) to assist CAI Youth Program Director to coordinate and conduct an 8-week summer camp with about 25 children and youth aged between 5 and 13, and 2) to coordinate a new program for teens aged 13-16 from the mid-June to the mid-August. The theme of the summer camp is “Health & Culture.” The intern will assist camp participants in exploring various cultures, including Cambodian arts and culture, through music, dance, history, language, literature, and cooking. CMAA's In-Person PlayStreets Internships focuses on health and wellness to help kids stay healthy, engaged, and grow during the summer. Our teens in the ASM program will complete a one week training, implement and plan (5) workshops and daily physical activities to have an impact on students at CMAA's Youth Summer Camp and complete their final project. Explore interactive theater techniques and hone your voice as actors and citizens! The Community Actors Apprenticeship is oriented toward social justice and positions teen performers as powerful actors in both art and society. This apprenticeship cultivates teen creativity, social development, and leadership and inspires them to make a positive difference. Teens work together to create a short play or collection of scenes that respond to community issues and organize an accompanying public event.

Stipend based. Teens will be working with youth ages 5-13 enrolled in our summer camp. Teens will be responsible for supervision of youth and working with year-round staff to provide a safe and fun environment for our members. Teens will also be responsible for working in a team setting to better serve our young members. Teens will be asked to share ideas for games, crafts or any other activities with a focus on Covid-19 safety protocols for activities. Teens will be responsible for leading their group of youth with the activity they worked on. They will be responsible for gathering and supplies needed, to instructing the youth and then executing their planned activity. In addition to working with youth teens will get hands on career readiness skills as they will be working on time management, communication with various age groups, including but not limited to youth, peers, executive staff and year round staff, team building, conflict resolution, interview readiness and group work.

In Community Influenced Pop Art teens complete small assignments merging elements from their environment/community with traditional painting techniques. Assignments may include portraiture, color wheels, caricature, and collages and emphasize individual artistic and creative growth. At the conclusion of the program each teen will have an individual portfolio of vibrant contemporary pop art that is relevant to the community and will have worked together with the whole team to create a group mural.

Contemporary Painting Studio is a combination of fundamental drawing and painting instruction and an investigation of how contemporary artists use various subjects to convey narrative, history, identity and metaphor through the visual arts. Teens develop a strong fundamental technical knowledge of the visual arts and learn how to apply those skills to create work that is professional, provokes thought, and encourages positive dialogue on the state of our community. Teens are encouraged to find visual resources that reflect their authentic voice, centered around the theme of Chicago as community. At the end of the program apprentices present their work in the form of a cohesive group exhibition.

Students will explore different aspects of art and build fundamental art skills through painting, crafting and creating! As a culmination of all they learn, teens create coil pottery using raw clay, applying the fundamental skills learned to design, build, and present their works.

The Creative Writing program provides an environment for teens to express themselves through stories. Teens learn the importance of voice, audience, intent, imagery, and organization in writing through discussion and analysis of works from a diverse group of published authors as well as by sharing their own original work with the group on a weekly basis. The group explores many different narrative forms as the teens work toward producing written stories of publishable quality. Join Culinary Arts and learn culinary skills and perfect the basic techniques of cooking and baking. Apprentices receive the foundational training necessary to obtain jobs in the culinary hospitality industry and develop skills that allow them to prepare healthy and sustainable meals for themselves and their families. The program also focuses on cake decorating, table setting, and catering for large groups. For their final presentation, the apprentices prepare a cake display and dinner for the community, family, ASM staff members, and the media.

Attention all future Top Chefs!!! In the downtown Culinary Arts program, apprentices learn the cooking skills and methods needed in a professional kitchen. Apprentices recreate an international based menu daily, and through their own interpretation, present plated products for digital documentation. The teens explore their creativity by finding culinary inspiration in life and other art forms. By participating in training and practice exercises, teens develop job readiness in the culinary field, establishing skill sets and foundational knowledge of the culinary arts, and gain exposure to a variety of new foods and flavors.

Culinary Arts teens learn to craft recipes by taking a fresh look at the world of food, utilizing various types of cooking techniques focusing on meal preparation that incorporate budget-friendly ingredients with healthier eating options that can appeal to their entire family. Teens develop,cook and taste different recipes daily, while building and enhancing their skills in teamwork, communication, social awareness and leadership. Teens are also introduced to needed skills and processes of working in the front of the house of a food service business, which includes customer service, customer relations, different menu types and service set-up which makes them better skill ready for their new job. Sr. teens are given the opportunity to get certified as food service handler, which required by law in the state of Illinois. Teens showcase all they have learn throughout in the program by hosting dinner buffet for family, friends, and community members.

Culinary Arts at Corliss provides real world experiences for teens interested in food service, catering or hospitality related education and careers. Teens will work on basic culinary skills and techniques and more experienced teens will have the opportunity to be assigned a lead chef position. Throughout the program teens will research their weekly recipes, convert servings sizes and develop shopping lists. Incorporating everyday life skills into the weekly class assignments. Some of these recipes will be showcased in a closing banquet at the end of the program session for teen's family and members of the community.

Teens will be given the opportunity to see what it takes to be successful in the growing industry of culinary arts. Teens will learn to prepare, shop, cook, and plate various meals. Teens will also demonstrate their understanding of the restaurant business by completing their own business model.

In the Culinary Cookbook program we focus on perfecting recipes fit for publication. We take our culinary ideas to the fullest by working on every aspect of the cookbook creation process. Culinary Fusion provides real world experiences for teens interested in learning how to cook different foods. Also while gaining knowledge in culinary and hospitality related education and careers. Divinity Dance Ensemble is an explorative dance program where teens learn about hip hop dance while also learning fundamentals of Ballet, Street Jazz, Afro- Caribbean modern to help cultivate a versatile dancer. In the program, teens explore their individual choreographic process and become comfortable creating their own works of art. Realizing teen participants are in adolescent stage in life, we go over life skills and career development to develop well rounded individuals who aren't just learning dance, but feel confident in the world after program completion. In the downtown DJ Foundations program, teens learn the art of selecting and mixing music for a variety of events, occasions and audiences. These fundamentals are transferable to several industries including music production, film, television and radio. Additionally, teens will be exposed to the social aspects and professional soft skills required to be a successful deejay.

A DJ program that will teach participants foundational skills to basic beat matching, mixing and a general understanding of various DJ equipment, including: controllers, mixers, and sounds setup. Take control of your community’s environment. Teens will work to improve their local environment. They will work with local non-profits to implement a community action plan to help fight climate change. You will learn about environmental justice and how to use air quality and community walk-ability data to have a lasting positive impact on the environment. At the end of this program teens host an online community action event that exposes local residents to locally grown food and raises awareness of the environmental justice cause that the group decides to highlight.

The program is designed to help fan the flames of curiosity, to help people showcase humanities and to build community. The skills required to do this center around organizational abilities and communication through email, on the phone and in person. Teens will utilize Google Drive to organize and I will help them with writing emails. Teens will have their hands in social media, marketing, poster design, curation, communication, community building, planning, scheduling, execution and collaboration. Hopefully there will be some problems along the way since that will be our greatest teacher. -- A dream would be able to help teens connect, collaborate and hold events with other teens across the city and in the ASM family.

Apprentices in this program develop their unique artistic style by exploring the elements of art. Each week brings a set of challenges and a theme that is an element of art: Color, Shape, Form, Value, Space, and Texture. This an immersive introduction to art theory where teens can learn and hone their own art style and voice. Apprentices study/discover their favorite artists and influences and create new works of art with mixed media and acrylic paint. Apprentices will showcase their art on a digital platform and give a 2 minute presentation on their biggest artistic influences and how it has impacted their artistry today.

The Experimental Comics program will introduce teens to the expansive possibilities of creating sequential art with original characters. Teens will learn the process of planning and executing a comic book; how to use a variety of unusual materials like brush and ink, charcoal, and gouache; and practice observational drawing. It's "experimental" because we'll try out many different ways of making images and narratives - there are no limits to the stories and characters we'll create. This isn't a typical superhero or manga art program!

Spend this Summer discovering the transformative, expressive world of Glass Art. This program will introduce you to the equipment and materials that go into the craft of glassmaking. You will have an opportunity to work hands-on to design and create fused glass projects with at-Home Design Project Kits. This interactive experience will offer you an opportunity to meaningfully interact with your peers virtually and help push your creativity as we explore this one of a kind art form.

FashionWERKS has two components. Sewing and Fashion Design. Fashion has range. It involves Construction, Deconstruction, and textile art, that teaches youth apprentices the basics of Sewing and Creative Design. FashionWERKS is also an innovative, youth-centered social entrepreneurship program where Teens learn the fundamentals of artistic self-expression as well as the inner workings of the business of Fashion. FashionWERKS will aid youth apprentices in planning, designing, developing, creating, marketing and how to selling his or her own final product.

Teens will learn to create fabric sculptures and other tactile art pieces using a variety of fiber art techniques including embroidery, stitching, quilting, printing on fabric, and weaving. With artists such as Nick Cave, Bisa Butler, Toni Brogan, and Alexander Hernandez for inspiration, this course will guide teens to engage with a variety of materials to make meaningful works of art.

Interns at the Field Museum will provide general customer service including: *Greeting and directing guests *Scanning tickets into the theater, exhibits, and museum *facilitating lines and providing support to cashiers *Asking visitors to follow public health guidelines *other task that may be assigned. Teen interns will set a schedule with their supervisor between 15 - 16 hours each week.

Film Foundations: Video is focused on teens new to video production. Students will learn the fundamentals of film equipment, composition, scriptwriting, production, and editing. These skills will serve as a foundation for them as they create several short video assignments on their own and put their knowledge into action. Several films will also be screened for teens in order to teach film critique and give inspiration for their assignments. Students of this class should walk away with a better understanding and confidence of video, ready for the next step of creating short films.

Film Making 101 is a program that covers the role and responsibility of a director in script development, pre-production, production and post production. Teens learn to tell a story cinematically, use the camera as a tool, prepare a script analysis and engage in the casting and rehearsal process with actors.

In Firework, teens learn a variety of fire-based art techniques including glassblowing, flameworking, fusing, ceramics, enameling, screenprinting and mosaic. An emphasis is placed on communication and teamwork. Safety and respect is required as we are working with hot and sharp materials.

The First Jobs Cube Project will be a fun and interactive opportunity to develop videos, podcasts, and other social media content to teach others how to be successful in their first job. We will explore qualities such as passion, courage, and collaboration together to create meaningful content to help others succeed. During the program you will have the opportunity to interview business owners, engage with guest speakers, and work with an app developer to create a First Jobs Cube app with all of the content you create throughout the summer.

Learn about Fitness & Nutrition with Coach Davenport! The goal of this 6-week long team building activity is to learn fun and creative workout routines, lose weight, or just become more physically fit and stay ahead of the competition! Throughout the program there will be three key parts that we focus on the most, WHY is physically activity important, HOW to correctly perform the activities and most importantly having FUN while doing it! Free Spirit Labs is a media arts and journalism program. High school participants gain skills in camera operation, audio engineering, performance, writing, editing and photography.

Handbuilding is an ancient pottery technique that involves using your hands and simple tools to form slabs, pinch, and coil clay into useful objects or sculptures. In this program, teens will learn how to make and decorate functional objects by applying these simple handbuilding techniques to fun projects. Students will leave the session with the confidence to navigate a ceramics studio, knowledge of how to professionally photograph their 3-D creations, art portfolio building, awareness of creative careers, college research basics, and several objects they will be proud to use in their everyday lives.

Future Barbers works to expose our 15 young ladies learn the fundamentals of the art of barbering. Through Weeks 1-6, our teens will diligently work to understand the basics of being a professional barber under the guidance of driven, experienced, local, professional barbers. Through workshops, field trips to barbershops, and hands on experiences with barber equipment, our motivated students will learn the history and culture of barbering; hygienic and safe practices; how to use tools and equipment; basic cutting techniques; professional conduct in a barbershop; and more. They will use peace circles to engage in conversation while building meaningful relationships. Barbering is an important art to continue to inspire interest in because the barbershop is a crucial mentorship outlet for men and a participatory, safe and supportive environment. This project-based learning engages our students through hands-on activities in understanding how barbering has evolved to be a 21st century trade and how current innovations continue to improve the craft. We aim to show that learning a trade is a dynamic process while imparting real world skills. They will put theory into practice doing something that captures their interest and provokes thought.

Teens work with a professional theater company, Collaboraction, to devise, develop and perform an original script based on social justice issues selected and explored by the teen ensemble. Theater activities/games and creative writing are used to build ensemble, devise theater, create music, write poetry and spoken word in the development of an original play presented at the end of the program on a Collaboraction Theater stage!

Future Music Creators @ North Grand HS is music composition/production program for teens interested in making their own original music. In the program, you learn the craft of production and composition through the practice of writing your own music, recording, and performing using modern technology. All styles are welcome!! Everyone's style is unique and we will challenge students to explore their individual identities and implement them into their very own clothing projects. Ultimately, this program aims to introduce you to affordable and sustainable fashion, while also equipping students with skills they can practice as a hobby and/or professional career. You see people selling jeans, jackets, and shirts for hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. The focus of our presentation is to provide reliable information to young girls regarding their physical and social emotional well - being. It presents young girls with knowledge about their body and physiology while also emphasizing the importance of decision making, self love, and sisterhood. Our aim is to empower girls through talks with a variety of experts that will serve as educators and mentors. The girls will also partake in projects and activities to solidify the lessons they are learning.

GlobalGirl Media Chicago develops the authentic voice and media literacy skills of teenaged girls in under-served communities by teaching them to create and share digital media journalism designed to ignite community activism and social change.Through training,mentoring and access to local and world-wide network of online distribution partners, GlobalGirl Media Chicago harnesses the power of new digital media to empower young women to bring their unique perspective onto the global media stage.

In Green Star Movement's remote bricolage course, teens create murals from start to finish with guidance from professional teaching artists. They learn how to design and create long-lasting works of art in their neighborhoods. Using tile, mirror, sculpture, and painting, the teens learn the art of bricolage to beautify their schools and their communities.

Teens work alongside industry professionals to install a Bricolage mural using newly acquired knowledge of public art design and traditional mosaic. Teens build leadership and cooperation skills through group projects, and learn how to meet deadlines by completing individual projects. Teens learn the fundamentals of mosaic, sculpture, photography and painting. Vigorous teamwork will result in three large scale, colorful, sparkling Bricolage murals at Perspectives Math & Science High School.

The Lawrence Hall Youth Services summer work program, Green Thumbs, is a comprehensive, hands-on experience for those interested in the landscaping fields. Interns learn skills specific to gardening while developing and practicing the work habits necessary for successful employment. Interns will expand their work competenecies to include garden design, plant care, and maintenance.

Calling all composers! Guitars Over Guns is teaming up with Curie Metro High School to offer a 6 week workshop in songwriting, performance and peer mentoring. Join mentors and practicing songwriters Andrew DeMuro & Phil Jacobson, members of local band ‘The Shades’, to learn how to write songs in popular styles including rock, pop, and Latin fusion; conduct and lead an ensemble of musicians; and learn mentoring best practices. All students will receive a composition book, a subscription to Soundtrap and an instrument of their choice for at-home practice.

Guitars Over Guns is teaming up with Kenwood Academy to offer a 6 week workshop that combines the inner-workings of the music industry with audio and visual art. Join practicing poet and photographer, Zaria Evans, a graduate of Kenwood, to learn about how to conceptualize, shoot, and monetize a music video, all while supporting local artists. Students will receive a mobile lens kit for their tablet to practice and a subscription to the Footejapp for editing. At the end of the program, students will showcase their best work in a digital portfolio by capturing media for a live concert.

Guitars Over Guns is teaming up with Roberto Clemente Community Academy to offer a special Summer Guitar Intensive. In this virtual class, participants will produce their own guitar cover of a song of their choosing, learning not just how to play the song, but also how to produce video and record audio to support it. Students will receive an acoustic guitar for at-home practice as well as home studio resources and visits from industry-level guest artists and musicians to mentor and guide them.

This program will provide teens with exposure to the history, traditions, and contemporary applications of ceramic art- from home! Teens will experiment with a range of ceramic techniques they can do in their own kitchen. We will explore air dry and oven bake clay- and we will even make our own clay! Teens will also work digitally, completing different design challenges on pottery apps on their phone and creating digital vision boards to gather ideas and inspiration. We will share our work through digital critiques using platforms like Flipgrid and Google Jamboard. At the end of the program, each teen will have a digital portfolio of work they created.

This program will provide teens with the opportunity to explore art-marking using a variety of materials. We will focus on creating original artworks through combining materials in new and interesting ways. Teens will explore various contemporary art making practices such as installation, book making, digital photography, and DIY printmaking strategies. Instructors will create a moderated program Instagram account, where teens will be able to showcase their works in progress and final projects

The Harold Washington Tennis Camp Internship allows teens to hone their skills in communication, youth development and tennis coaching. Interns perform tennis drills and fitness training drills as assigned by the Head Pro and fitness trainer which may include gathering and preparing tennis court, fitness and chess materials, working with small groups of children, monitoring small group drills and maintaining a developmentally appropriate and safe environment. Interns also participate in developing and implementing drills and match play as well as partnering with co-workers in communicating with and assisting each other in the total operation of the camp.

Stipend based. Heartland Youth and Family Services will offer seven Chicago Public High School teens an opportunity to become a junior counselor for our Refugee Youth Summer Program. Teens who aspire to become teacher, social worker, or community leaders are encouraged to apply. Teens in this internship develop their leadership, communication, and facilitation skills. The Refugee Youth Summer program provides various programming activities throughout the summer for newly arrived refugee children and youth. Programming involves engaging in educational and literacy activities, remote field trips, and art activities. The teens would help youths to improve their English language skills and model forming meaningful relationships and friendships across different cultures. Additionally, teens would support the summer program through helping with leading activities and facilitating games. Each week, interns would help the staffs to plan games and activities along with check in on monday. Tuesday would be educational and literacy day, Wednesday is physical movement/field trip day, and thursday would be art and craft activities day, friday would be intern development training and reflection day. Interns would learn to work with different age group and building team work. Interns will work closely with staffs throughout the summer program.

The South Shore Drill Team (SSDT) is a performing arts group that does dance and precision-drilling. SSDT strives to instill responsibility, teamwork, and self-discipline by utilizing a system that provides youth with additional responsibilities and offers more voice in activities as they mature and demonstrate their ability to lead. Teens have the opportunity to showcase what they learn during a public performance.

The HoopsHIGH program is a remote sports broadcasting program that will provide in-depth instruction and hands-on experience in the art of sports broadcasting. The teens will learn how to do sports commentary, podcasting, journalism, camera operation, and editing. Chicago teens interested will learn how to navigate through the sports world. At the end of the program, the teens will have to produce their own video and audio reels.

Stipend based. Learn about plant materials, soil, and wildlife support. This role will give you experience on a variety of plant materials, design techniques, and environmental management. This on-site role will follow all required guidelines for safety as determined by ASM, the City of Chicago, and CPS if applicable. Skills needed: • Ability to learn an instructed task and repeat it until proficient • Interest and willingness to work outside in varied weather • Interest and willingness to perform repeated, sometimes tedious and meticulous work in support of nature spaces • Physical flexibility to work with hand tools, large garden tools, in soil, kneeling and bending • Attention to varied, fine details • Basic organizational and ownership for space/tasks at hand Task Description: • Manage a specific nature space on-site at Keeler Gardens, being responsible for all work in that defined area. • Learn and perform basic horticutural tasks such as weeding, cutting flowers and branches, clean-up, watering, digging, and planting. • Assist with soil management including examining soil for health, applying powder or liquid additives or compost, and installing mulch. • Advanced opportunities may include projects, such as monitoring spaces with log book entries, feeding wildlife, facilities management, and other simple projects.

Hustle & Flow is a Hip Hop, Mental Health and Music Entrepreneurship class. Teens learn about the music industry, Hip Hop, songwriting, entrepreneurship, mental health and the power of sharing their stories. The class includes a microphone to record songs/projects, marketing training, acclaimed musical guests and a final virtual performance.

Teen apprentices in the Hyde Park Art Avengers Illustration program learn about the creative process of a comic book. Teens learn the basics of sketching, drawing, storyboarding, editing and publishing and learn poster, brochure, and product design. Mural painting. Teens compose visual narratives to support compelling stories included in comic books. For a final project teens create original group and individual comic books, as well as a poster, brochure & final product design of their choice.

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Summer Camp Program Assistant will assist with summer camp program operations and administration, including space setup, resource/material coordination, snack coordination, parent and student sign-ins/sign-outs, time-keeping, supervision of children, classroom assistance, photo-taking, record-keeping, enrollment analysis, volunteer tracking/management, landscape research, and other assignments as required. This person must be comfortable working with children and families and performing administrative functions. You will be expected to work on-site, within and outside of our facility. You will be required to wear a face mask while in the facility.

As a member of Intonation's Rock and Pop Band, teens develop the skills necessary to perform in a band. Daily activities include group music lessons (guitar, drum set, keyboard, vocals), rehearsals, visits from music industry professionals, and songwriting/beat making. The program will culminate with a recorded song and performance at The Promontory in Hyde Park. While teens do not need to have any previous experience playing an instrument or performing, a love for music of all kinds and an openness to new ideas and experiences is required!

Students will start each class with a short discussion about a topic of their choice. Students will then review the instruments needed for the lesson of the day and break off into group off into groups of 3-4. Students will check google meet for the syllabus and all group instructions.

Introduction to Peer to Peer Peacemakers will give teens the opportunity to learn the philosophy and practices of Restorative Justice. The program will focus on the practice of circles and their uses, especially the use of circles as a preventative measure for conflict and for healthy relationship building skills. Participants in the program will develop their leadership skills as well as communication skills. Participants will be able to promote restorative justice and its practices in the community and among their peers.

Through visual/street art, Bloom focuses on self-resilience, community engagement, and learning about social issues that surround youth in their daily lives. Together, in an LGBTQ all-inclusive safe space, young people take the lead in developing a visual art show and learning about urban art techniques (spray painting, stenciling, wheat -pasting) that connects to social issues they are passionate about. No previous art skills required, just an open mind and a commitment to participate.

What does a costume designer do and how do they do it? This program introduces teen to the elements and process of costume design for live performance. Working individually and in teams, teens will learn how to research, develop, and express their design ideas, both visually and verbally. Note: This not a program in fashion design or in garment construction, but about developing your artistic voice as a member of a creative team.

This on - line program is an Introduction to Mixed Martial Arts Program and includes an overview of the sport and self-defense application of MMA, Concepts and Techniques of Martial Arts (specifically Muay Thai and the Grappling Art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), Philosophy and Lifestyle of Martial Arts (Healthy Living, Discipline, Mental Skills).Program will run in - person over summer session.

This program is beginner and multilevel friendly. The program covers drawing and painting fundamentals with an introduction to visual art practices. We will learn about historical and contemporary artists, understand traditional techniques, and conceptual forms of making. Ultimately forming new meanings as to “how” and “why” we make art in the 21st century.

This program will focus on providing teens with the knowledge of foods and cultures around the world. We will compare the cost of cooking meals at home versus eating out. We will also focus on basic cake decorating techniques in order to teach teens the skills necessary to decorate cakes and prepare basic pastries.

In this program you will learn the basics of journalism reporting and collectively create a virtual magazine. You will learn to story-tell through photography, video and audio to create original and attractive reporting. Whether it’s through a lens or pen, you will get the chance to pursue a story in art, fashion, politics, community, street culture, etc.

After School Matters is partnering with the Juvenile Detention Center to provide a 5-day mural arts program this Summer. 12 teens will work virtually with world class artist Jeff Maldonado to create art projects for teens to artistically express themselves and help beautify their space.

The Jazz Big Band works on pieces encompassing the entire range of jazz styles from swing to contemporary and everything in between. We have performances in various venues throughout the city including Fitzgerald's, the Pritzker Pavillion, and Daley Plaza. In addition to regular guidance by the instructors, there will be clinics held by guest artists. We typically work on about 25 to 30 pieces each program session, so some previous experience on your instrument is necessary. It's a great opportunity to work on sight reading, jazz improvisation, and improving your general playing ability.

Participants in this virtual dance intensive engage with Joffrey Community Engagement through a rigorous virtual dance learning experience. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago Junior Staff Internship helps prepare Club teens for a career in a helping profession by developing their interpersonal skills, work ethic, leadership, and sense of community responsibility. The Journey to My Better Self Media Empowerment Program is an innovative skills and career development program for teens which uses television production and digital print journalism to facilitate real work experience and career exploration. The JUMP IN! program provides training in competitive and performance jump rope, a respected international sport. Organized into teams, teens will gain skills in jump rope, help create choreographed routines and participate in league tournaments locally and nationally.

Our program provides quality tennis and education activities that contribute to positive youth development, improve student academic outcomes, and provide a springboard that leads to a successful college experience and meaningful career in the workplace. Teens learn a full-range of tennis skill as well as lessons on the true essence of the sport including character development, self-awareness, respect for the game and respect for one another. Teens in the Junior Tennis Apprenticeship develop their athletic skills and learn to apply the same discipline they use to achieve their goals on the court to the goals they want to achieve in the classroom or workplace. Teens challenge themselves through tennis skill development and college preparation. The program strives to equip teens with the tools and determination to be poised and ready for success.

Our program provides quality tennis and education activities that contribute to positive youth development, improve student academic outcomes, and provide a springboard that leads to a successful college experience and meaningful career in the workplace. Teens learn a full-range of tennis skill as well as lessons on the true essence of the sport including character development, self-awareness, respect for the game and respect for one another. Interns for the Healthy Kids Summer Day Camp assist YMCA day camp counselors with supervising 6 to 12 year old children in a group setting throughout the day both inside the YMCA and on field trips. Interns plan and implement camp activities, maintain safety and cleanliness, and promote safety, respect, and healthy eating habits among campers.

Participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully obtain basketball official certification from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). During the last week of the program, three culminating events take place: a tournament officiated by the teens, an experience coaching younger youth, and the IHSA basketball officials certification test for all eligible participants.

King College Prep Band Program provides students the opportunity to participate in an instrumental environment that represents the youth abilities to learn, interpret and perform music of peace with a special emphasis on learning how to think globally with the highest degree of quality of Peacebuilding Skills . The summer program consists of the following student ensembles and groups: "Soul Train of Chicago" Jaguar Marching Band, Jazz Orchestra, Drum Line. Every effort is to teach and instruct students how to think critically with lessons of music theory, performance and lessons of peace. The program session will conclude with a traditional concert show & Tell.

In the K.L.E.O. Performing Arts program, teens gain knowledge of the theater, music and entertainment industry. Students have hands-on interaction with various types of equipment and enjoy a stage to practice their performances at K.L.E.O. Teens work together to refine their talent and enhance skills through weekly performance competitions. Recognition is given for teens with the most drive, initiative, stage presence, and attitude.

Teens work with Kuumba Lynx professional arts educators to develop original hip hop theater performances then tour the works across city. Through teens' participation in Kuumba Lynx Hip Hop Art Labs and Critical Knowledge Ciphers, teens are supported in the development of their art making skills in music recording, spoken word, movement, theater, and multi media. Sessions are held at Clarendon Park in Uptown (when in person). Teens must have some experience in performance etiquette and a strong desire to perform or work behind the scenes in production. Weekend shows are mandatory (when in person)!

Come dance, choreograph, create, collaborate, learn, and perform a full dance piece on stage this season! Through the Latin dance styles of bachata, salsa, merengue, cumbia, and cha, we will learn the techniques, choreograph combinations to hit music, express ourselves, and create our own works of art. (We will also be throwing in hip-hop and some reaggeton). The program will build confidence, grow your knowledge and dancing ability, increase physical strength, creativity, and celebrate culture and heritage. It will culminate in a final show for parents and friends!

"My program will focus on learning the foundation of various latin dance styles all while developing strong relationships, leadership skills, and lifelong learners. Each skill is centered around these five themes: unity, diversity, community, pride, and empowerment. Teens will learn the various styles and genres in Latin music- old and modern. Students will learn technical choreography and performance skills and technique. We will strive to bring about the best in our members and encourage a relationship that will grow and take form over time."

Youth have fun learning about their human, civil, and legal rights from human rights advocates who are lawyers and social workers. Youth learn how to teach, lead, and present about human rights, and their opinions and creativity contribute to the program design. With this program, you will be empowered to work towards that change, building on your strengths. Examples of what the program will cover are: 1) teenage sexual and romantic health, “A bill of rights for your love life,” 2) yoga and meditation to help you fulfill “your human right to peace of mind,” 3) conflict resolution principles for resolving conflicts without violence, and 4) Youths’ human rights around the world. Youth also work on their resumes, practice interviewing skills, and get help with college and career plans. They will support each other and have fun!

Stipend based. Interns will work 15 hours/week. The Leadership Ladder internship places teens in leadership positions within NWCDC summer youth programs ranging from assisting basketball tournaments, baseball and softball teams, track, or dance and fitness programs. Teens get hands-on leadership experience exposing them to leadership, discipline, teamwork, communication skills that are integral to future employment.

Join Leaps & Bounds to build the skills and knowledge necessary to have a successful transition into your freshman year of high school.Teens practice goal setting, time management, and study skills. Additionally, teens learn about college including the benefits of advanced education and the entrance requirements and knowledge gained during visits to college campuses. The final project of Leaps & Bounds is a performance of original works produced by the teens during the program.

Learn How to Code - The fun way! Teens design a website using html, css and we will also use a free open source tool. Computer skills are obtained along with the confidence to use them. Teens will also practice public speaking and be conducting mock interviews. This will help prepared them for job interviews and learn what a real interview entails. The importance of soft skills in the profession is also vital and will discuss and practice this as well. These lessons are designed to to help the teens of today acquire the necessary skills for the future.

Love to dance? Join Les Enfants Dance (LED) and develop your skills in the art of dance theater performance. Become a stronger, more disciplined student, professional and world citizen through exposure to work, culture and art. Engage with guest artists to learn different styles of choreography and learn about a professional career in dance performance. Challenge yourself to think creatively and work with other teens to choreograph, rehearse, and perform dances all over the City of Chicago!

Les Enfants Dance Program integrates song and dance taught through cultural context. Our goal is to empower teens through exposure to dance as an art form, professional opportunity and tool of expression. Les Enfants’ objectives are to introduce teens to a variety of dance styles, foster artistic growth of personal and professional discipline through dance. Teens are introduced to ballet and modern for classical training. To fulfill our mission and title, teens learn traditional African, Caribbean and Latin dances. We often remind ourselves that the race is not for the swift, but to those who endure till the end.

Life skills are those skills that are necessary or desirable for full participation in everyday life. Students that require life skills instruction are affected by a large range of disabilities including an intellectual disability, autism, or other impairments. Despite the type of disability, individuals with a disability often lack the required skills to take care of themselves to the greatest extent possible. The most mundane of tasks that people without disabilities do daily without a thought such as wash dishes, hygiene routines, meal preparation, dressing, social awareness etc. are important skills that need to be taught and developed in a person with a disability. Life skills practice affords student the chance to foster independence, become active, contributing members of their household and society and largely impacts post-secondary success. This life skills program provides students with disabilities the simulated environment and space to learn to do basic day to day functional tasks and activities. In this program students will learn about social awareness and safety in the community, money skills, hygiene practices, simple food preparation, household chores and a wide array of other skills embedded into the life skills curriculum.

Stipend based. In this internship, interns will be working on tech / help desk. While interns may only check in with their supervisors for an hour each week, teens are expected to complete at least 15 total internship hours each week. Additional support to work with the Youth Anti-Violence Council and the Virtual Club of BGCC.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago Junior Staff Internship helps prepare Club teens for a career in a helping profession by developing their interpersonal skills, work ethic, leadership, and sense of community responsibility. This program empowers teens to develop job-related skills in comprehensive youth development programming while teaching transferrable soft skills of critical thinking, independence and collaboration, and professionalism to prepare them to be college and career ready.

Do you see yourself as an activist? Develop leadership and community organizing skills with the Logan Square Youth Leadership Institute by creating and implementing your own community action research project. Reimagine your community by creating new and exciting solutions to social issues impacting our city. You get to choose whether you want to work on solutions to social issues like gentrification, school budget cuts, or interpersonal violence. You will receive support from experienced community organizers and educators to learn how to be confident and compelling agents of positive change in your neighborhood and school.

The Lookingglass Lab Ensemble researches, writes, rehearses and performs an original play based on identity and reimagining our shared futures. In addition to strengthening acting and performing skills, apprentices learn dramaturgy and playwriting. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about and meet visual and performing artists inspired by science fiction, fantasy, futurism and autobiographical narratives. The Lookingglass Lab Ensemble will craft their original play into a webisode series. Each week we will stage, act, film and edit a new webisode, culminating with a Friday watch party and feedback session. Expect to learn new theatre skills, strengthen your leadership and personal expression and make a new ensemble of long-term friends and collaborators across the city!

The Dazzling Knight Majorettes were established in 2015 to formulate a sisterhood made up of unique individuals that make up a creative whole. We also open our arms to aspiring male students. The Dazzling Knight Majorettes promote academic excellence, respect, self worth, confidence, and leadership through the love of dance. This summer we will offer an introduction to majorette dance as well as an abundance of experience and fun, while enhancing dance skills.

Mastering Manhood: The Six Essential Building Blocks for Young Minority Male Development, is a 24-day developmental course, focused on the enhancement of young-minority males. Male Mogul’s Six Essential Building Blocks will focus on the following; Self-Perception, Moral Leadership, Innovative Mindset, Effective Collaboration, Conflict Resolution and M.A.L.E. Leadership. This Mariachi Ensemble Apprenticeship provides a positive experience for teens who want to be part of a performing arts group. This group consists of teens with various levels of musical experience. This program allows teens to work together and learn about mariachi performance, history, culture, and tradition. The program teaches teens the music theory; instrument use, tuning, and maintenance; history of Mexico and Mariachi music; and the performance of Mariachi repertoire. All teens participate in a final performance as a Mariachi Ensemble.

Marillac Fine Arts is a theater apprenticeship that gives teens the opportunity to see first-hand the importance of commitment and team work in creating a performance piece. Teens have leadership roles in all aspects of the productions including designing and creating the sets, creating choreography for dance, script writing, directing as well as acting. Performances also include spoken word poetry and teens often focus on their own experiences with violence and stopping violence in the community.

Marshall Debate is an online program that helps students develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills across the curriculum as students learn to research and defend a variety of positions on controversial issues. By the end of the program, students will be well informed about a wide variety of issues and better equipped to be productive citizens in our global society.

Restoration of the urban environment which is shared by man and animals is a concern affecting the sustainability of community life. Training youth to be stewards of the land is primary. Learning to use items traditionally deposited in landfills to heal the damage done by industrialization is following the natural order of nature, i.e. cardboard, vegetable scraps.

mediaWERKS xBBF is a film studies and filmmaking apprenticeship that allows teens to develop the skills necessary to pursue film in college, as a career path, or simply as a hobby that allows for creativity and positive self-expression. mediaWERKS xBBF apprentices advance their knowledge of video recording and editing, sound mixing, animation, and media deconstruction.

Work as counselor at MetroSquash Summer Enrichment Camp, leading groups of students in grades 5-12. Interns are responsible for providing squash instruction, camper supervision, and assisting with administering a creative writing curriculum. Interns receive training on youth guidance and gain valuable experience developing skills in educational instruction, basic administrative duties, communication, and behavioral intervention.

The goal of this advanced Common Core-aligned course is to extend the Geometric concepts students learned in middle school and expand their knowledge of Geometry. Students will deepen their understanding of geometric relationships and explore geometric situations as they construct formal mathematical arguments. Topics covered include inductive and deductive reasoning, congruence, similarity, right triangle trigonometry, transformations, polygons, circles, geometric measurement and dimension, solids, modeling with geometry, and an introduction to probability. This program is eligible for dual enrollment, teens can participate and earn a stipend in another ASM program. Stipend for this program is $250.

Through interactive lessons, you will develop skills and strategies to learn how to cope with the day-to-day challenges of school, family, future planning and stress. You will learn about the tools for mindfulness that will bring balance to the areas of social awareness, self-management, interpersonal skills, responsible behavior and decision-making skills. You will engage in this work through various art projects such as vision boards, journaling, exercising in gratitude and appreciation. Additionally, you will learn yoga and meditation. You will tap into your inner artist and create canvases of inspirational quotes and affirmations like, “I am in flow with the Universe.” By the end of the program, you will develop a natural instinct within to reach for better and to dream what many would say is impossible.

MiniMed introduces students to various careers in healthcare and a future that is dedicated to helping others. Teens will be exposed to certification programs through City Colleges, and engage with health professionals through speaker events, site visits, job shadows, and internships that will advance their knowledge and experience in healthcare. Teens will learn about safety and infection control, CPR and first aid, human growth and development, vital signs, nutrition and wellness, and geriatric care.
