#DrummingUpPower is HANA Center’s youth empowerment program where teens learn up to four different instruments used in pungmul, or Korean traditional drumming. In addition to drumming, teens will learn how we can each use our own culture and the arts to build and grow the power of our communities together. By the end of the program, teens will perform in a final drumming showcase and create a visual or performing arts piece based on their research around issues impacting themselves and other young people in the city. Young leaders will realize that we can use our drums and arts to fight for justice and human rights with “HANAsori,” or “one sound” in Korean.

#IncreaseThePeace is an advanced apprenticeship program that will teach teens the basics in community organizing. By the end of the program student will have conducted 3 digital or independent campaigns either on community safety, mutual aid, or hosting virtual information sessions on community issues. The young leaders will also have virtual power meetings with elected officials. The conversation will depend on what issues are most important to the students and the students will commit the elected official to further collaboration.

Teens enrolled in A&A sports will strive for excellence in a variety of sports, through a unique developmental and progressive system of fitness training. Through participation in the program, young athletes will be equipped with all the physical and mental skills necessary to achieve a life of fitness, health and sporting excellence.

Culinary Arts is a student-driven cooking apprenticeship exposing teens to the art of food preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation in a commercial kitchen environment. Teens learn about the leadership roles of kitchen managers, chef managers, sanitation supervisors and have the opportunity to take on these roles throughout the program. Teens will obtain the necessary skills to plan, prepare, cook, and present a full course luncheon or dinner.

We train teens in the elements of bike-related employment. This includes bicycle mechanics and repair, advocacy and outreach, and safe cycling instruction. In addition, programs help develop their resume writing and personal finance skills as well as their business planning and entrepreneurship expertise. Teens will have the opportunity to participate in all facets of WTB operations, focusing on seven program areas, each with its specific responsibilities: 1. Bike Safety, Maintenance, & Repair: 2. Shop Maintenance: 3. Youth Program Operations: 4. Youth Program Instruction: 5. Materials Recycling: 6. Product Delivery. Applicants should have the following qualifications: 1.Have previous experience as a participant in West Town Bike ASM Apprenticeship Program. 2.Communicates well with teens of all abilities, cultural groups, economic statuses, sexual orientations, and disabilities. 3.Speaks in a friendly, concise, and accurate manner especially in front of large groups. 4.Has a bicycle in good working condition and an approved bicycling helmet. 5.Experienced in urban traffic bicycling. 6.Works well in a team, fosters team spirit through communication and compromise. 7.Prompt, punctual, and takes direction well. 8.Effective problem-solving abilities, thinks creatively. 9.Self-motivated and determined, completes tasks in an unstructured and informal environment with limited supervision.

For their final presentation teens prepare a cake display and dinner for the community, their families, ASM staff members, and the media.

In this program, teens learn how to use a sewing machine by incorporating practical and experimental techniques. Teens create wearable fashions and home accessories. Entrepreneurial skills such a starting and launching a fashion line will be highlighted as well. Think "Shark Tank" meets "Project Runway."

Interested in a career in cosmetology? Want to learn how to run a small business? The Advanced Hair Techniques program functions as a salon apprenticeship where teens learn the basic entrepreneurship and management skills needed to start and run a beauty salon. Beyond the entrepreneurship component, teens also function as stylist apprentices in order to learn the technical components of hair care as well as the interpersonal skills necessary for positive client relations. Teens end the program with a thorough understanding of the salon industry and the basic skills necessary to begin a career in cosmetology.

Tumbling into Fitness introduces teens to tumbling skills that include conditioning and flexibility exercises and strength training. Teens also study nutrition and learn to create healthy meal plans for themselves and their families. Teens work together to plan and execute a "Family Fitness Night" as a culmination of all they learn - a night of games and health exhibits for their friends and families.

From operating video cameras to script writing to editing, teen apprentices learn all of the essentials for making their own short movies. The program begins with technical workshops on how to make their films look professional and slick. Apprentices then participate in brainstorming sessions where they pitch their own ideas for short films. Once in production, teens write scripts, act, shoot, direct, and then edit their ideas into finished films.

You will be engaged through building your artistic skills while building a genuine comradery through constant communication in meetings. This art program is sure to give you a friendly and satisfying experience!

Remote internship, stipend based. This internship program is designed for aspiring Advanced Theater Teens to improve on their skills by being an active part of The Miracle Center’s virtual theater experience beyond the stage. In this role, the interns will learn about administrative operations, leadership roles in organizing and communications for the Actors/Singers, Dancers and Tech team. Essential Job Functions 1. Assist Instructors in organizing and preparing bi-weekly theatrical miniseries projects 2. Serve as leaders in group and production activities 3. Assist with teen rehearsals and project schedules 4. Take notes for the Theatre Meetings 5. Assist the Instructors with other program duties as needed or assigned

Participants in the AeroStars Aviation Exploration program get hands-on experience in the aerospace industry. Teens discover the rich history of aviation and participate in experiments, modeling, airport design, and flight simulation. Industry professionals share expertise and take apprentices on field trips to local airports, aerospace business, aerospace museum exhibits, and the Chicago Air and Water Show. Throughout the program, teens grasp hold of real world, practical applications of aviation science.

Learn traditional and contemporary African dance movements.

Dancing! African Culture! Caribbean Rhythms! Fashion and Jewelry! AfriCaribbean Arts Connections is a cultural education program that has it all. This program incorporates dance, music, and textile art to help teens connect to their roots from the West Side of Chicago, throughout the city, to Africa, the Caribbean and beyond. Come discover the physical, emotional, and mental benefits of the arts, in a program that features guest speakers, college connections, and collaborative events within the community! Teens take part in a final performance to showcase all they learn throughout the program.

This Afro-Caribbean Jazz Ensemble program provides the opportunity to expand on the fundamentals of the Jazz and Afro-Latin traditions of the Caribbean. The Afro-Caribbean Jazz Ensemble is an introduction to the next level of concepts that are essential for teens looking into World Music performance. Students from this program are regularly invited to play in performances across the city. Past performances include the Chicago Jazz Festival, The Chicago Latin Jazz Festival, Shakespeare in the Parks and World Dumpling Festival/World Music Festival.

Students will study improvisation, sketch comedy writing and stand-up comedy. Explore the fundamentals of improvisation, short form and scenic exercises. Students will learn brainstorming techniques for various styles of sketch comedy writing. They will learn how to craft stories from their own personal experiences and joke structure for a standup comedy or storytelling act. A final performance will showcase a lineup of a variety of works produced along with improvisation.

Advance your Latin dance skills with expert instructors. Choreograph and perform routines using dances such as Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cha Cha, and Rumba.

Learn to create 2D and 3D animated characters, scenes and backgrounds. Your creations would be ready to then be used in video games, short stories or anime. All levels of drawing and animation are welcome to apply!

Apparel Design and Crafts Sewing program provide teens with the opportunity to design and sew fun fashion crafts for personal or commercial purposes.Teens will learn how to design and sew fashion crafts such as Hair Bonnet, Pillows, Purses, Bows, etc. Some of the highlights of the program include tours to fabric stores, exposure to apparel industry events, and an end-of-program exhibition/fashion show of all the projects made. This program will improve teens' social and interpersonal skills, and the sewing skills can become a means of generating an income.

The Arab American Spoken Word and Hip Hop Program is designed to cultivate young leaders who are comfortable addressing community and youth issues through writing, performance, and civic engagement. In addition to spoken word and hip hop instruction, our program fosters leadership and professional development; personal and cross-cultural communication skills; and critical thinking and social justice awareness. Most workshops and discussions will be led by the youth participants in an effort to promote leadership, facilitation skills, and a program environment that is youth-led and adult-guided. Youth select the themes that they would like to address and explore these themes through open discussions, documentaries, youth-led presentations, and relevant field trips. Youth then create original spoken word poems around these issues, edit their works through peer and instructor critiques, and perform before a live audience.

Ever wondered why buildings look the way they do? About how they're made? Asked yourself why the city works and feels the way it does? This class will give you the chance to work on an architecture project, learn skills like hand drawing, model making, and computer design, and see different parts of Chicago on weekend field trips. If you like drawing, making things, thinking creatively, and exploring the city, this program is for you. No experience with architecture necessary.

Our program uses teen created artwork and experiences to catalyze and deepen neighborhood relationships. Through a series of hands-on studio projects, teens practice drawing, painting, and mixed media skills. For inspiration, students get to visit Chicago artist studios and gallery exhibits. They also take their skills and inspiration out in the community to create art that brings the community together and makes a meaningful impact. In addition to creating community, teens gain hands on experience facing an entrenched problem within a community, and learn first hand that change is possible. In a respectful and nurturing environment, they put their research and new skills to work to develop creative strategies to face challenges.

Teen Ambassadors also represent the teen voice and provides valuable input to ASM leadership that is used to make decisions about programming and other elements that impact teen issues and interests.

ASM Scholars @ Lutz is a college exploration and readiness program for current seniors (must have participated in ASM Scholars their junior year). Over the course of their senior year scholars will receive guidance in preparing for college, exploring their college (4-year) and career interest, navigating the financial aid and the college application processes. In addition to meeting remotely each week, scholars can expect to complete asynchronous tasks and meet one-on-one with a mentor working toward their college completion goals!

Would you like to become an electrical engineer? The Audio Electronics program introduces teens to electrical theory and practice. Apprentices learn basic electronics, basic soldering, metering skills, theory and practice of electrical audio concepts, and real-world repair. The curriculum teaches logic and practical workplace skills, and focuses on the successful completion of different projects.

Advanced electronics teens conceive and build their own studio mixing console from the ground up. Students are challenged to consider design concepts such as gain structure, impedance matching, equalizer design, summing mixers, proper power supply construction, and balanced outputs. Teens leave the program with an advanced understanding of the core concepts of electrical engineering theory and practice.

audioWERKS Apprentices will produce music using an all-digital platform. Youth apprentices will learn the technological aspects of the music industry by producing music using tan all-digital platform; they will learn English proficiency (song writers will participate in Literature Lab) and creative art by becoming acquainted with the five elements of hip-hop (Dj'ing, Graffiti, Break dance, MC’ing & knowledge-understanding) and the youth will learn the entrepreneurial aspects of the music industry. The entrepreneurial aspect of audioWERKS will allow the Youth apprentices to build their confidence in expressing oneself through music; and to collaborate with peers and instructor in creating a body of work for distribution.

Students in this class will learn to use 3D modeling software, vector software, and Spark AR to create their own augmented reality filters. After getting comfortable with the basics, students will make filters for different topics, including sustainability, social justice, and education.

This program focuses on exposure to Urban Agriculture, environmental/food justice, economics, health and ecology. Teens will learn about the growing cycle, nutrition, food preparation, facility operation and maintenance, project management, construction, leadership, entrepreneurship, storytelling and civic engagement, through weekly activities that include, presentations, daily journaling, and hands-on gardening projects.

Auto Mechanics @ Prosser is an introductory program to all things auto mechanics. Meeting only on Saturdays, teens will learn remotely, using their CPS provided laptop or an ASM provided tablet. They will work as a group to learn about automotive wiring, wheel balancing, engine design, suspension components, etc. Teens will be responsible for doing at home model build projects as well as group work, lectures and presentations.

Join Aztec Dance Chicago to learn about pre-Hispanic, folkloric and contemporary expressions of Mexica-Aztec-Nahua culture by practicing dances, native ceremonial songs, pre-Hispanic musical rhythms, and community building skills. Participate in field trips and workshops with local dance groups and various experts in Native cultures and Aztec dance. In sharing skills gained through program, teens work together to plan and host community workshops and presentations showcasing concepts, songs, community building activities and dances.

Learn Aztec dances, percussion and drum rhythms and become a cultural promoter with Aztec Dance Chicago program. Teens learn the mechanics and symbolism of dance steps, Native songs and rhythms. Cultural games and crafts allow us to create a fun, familiar and safe environment. Native cultural concepts provide an alternative outlook of nature and life experiences. By the end of program participants will have shared several cultural workshops and presentations with the community.

In this program the teens will learn the basics of sanitation, ingredient function, proper kitchen tool uses, and measurements. They will be working on baking techniques, packaging, and presentation. This program not only focuses on baking, but also on entrepreneurship in the baking industry.

This program is only for students from Vaughn Occupational High School.

Band Techniques is designed for aspiring teens who wish to gain experience in marching band. This curriculum is designed to prepare young leaders for teaching music and marching through the process of learning an entire marching show including music, body moves and marching fundamentals and techniques. This will expose these teens to technical exercises, warm up routines and performance charts that will challenge each individual and develop them during the program. Teens will learn how to collaborate, use team building skills and goal setting skills while learning to play a musical instrument. During the sessions since we will have a lot of new teens that never played before, we will teach a lot of traditional drum techniques. For the students who are not beginners we will do modern drum techniques. For the wind instrument players that are not beginners we will gave them experience on trying new instruments and focus on learning more music with an uptempo feel.

Join the Bandwith - Hope Jr. Junior Drumline Program and learn percussion instruction and ensemble performance experience. Teens learn the history of American Drumline culture, as well as the experience of setting and working toward individual and communal goals as we prepare for our culminating performance. This program offers teens access to one of the many opportunities to be musically expressive, as well as to be part of Chicago's cultural fabric.

This program will provide an orientation into a career filled with unlimited potential, one that can propel you in many directions as you may become a confident and successful professional. Students will be introduced to the ever-growing,ever-evolving, ever-changing and fascinating hair industry.Students will be introduced to new and current techniques, new products and a variety of job opportunities. Students will learn basic personal grooming methods as well as life skills and how to present a strong professional image. Students will also be introduced to knowing how to build your own business. Students will learn how to market themselves as an entrepreneur in the barbering profession

Teachers and tutors give teens a background in math, engineering, aeronautics, science, social science, and the history of African American aviators. Throughout the apprenticeship, participants build connections between their personal goals and real world experience through hands-on activities, field trips, and professional exposure. We also try to ensure teens obtain their drone certification

Brand BUILD engages young men and women in a unique program that teaches teens how to create a variety of products while also helping teens acquire the skills necessary to build their own business. In addition, instructors and youth facilitate group discussions on current and relevant events that effect local communities in order to engage all individuals in the group to promote personal and professional growth. If you like making things then Brand BUILD is a great program to explore your creativity!

When doing production there are 3 phases you go through. Pre production, production, and post production. Here you will learn all 3 phases and the importance of planning (pre-production). Students will learn to create paperwork, camera shots and angles, lighting, microphone patterns and types, and editing. Our job is to prepare you for the production world and to think outside of the box. We also encourage you to use the art of production as your voice for social issues.

"Build Your Brand" will give you an understanding of the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship. Participants will engage directly with Chicago Fair Trade's broad network of local social entrepreneurs and ethical business professionals who will help you develop and hone your ethical business skills.

Students will learn to collaborate with fellow designers to create a cohesive fashion exhibition. Each student will contribute designs to their group's exhibition, and realize an element from their favorite design. The designers will experiment with paint, markers, and colored pencils to create dynamic fashion renderings, and explore clothing pattern creation, alteration and garment construction.

Stipend based. Helix Interns will serve as members of our Helix Chicago and Helix Cafe staff. The Helix Business Internship will be a hands-on internship where participants will learn what it means to be a business owner and entrepreneur in 2021. Participants can anticipate working on a business team and developing real-world products for Helix Cafe and Helix Chicago. This fall will focus on Helix Cafe's operations, marketing and financial performance as well as launching Helix's entrepreneurship and coding after school program. Business Beyond the Game is a program created to shine light on the many jobs and careers within the sports industry. This program should bring awareness to the many possibilities "beyond the game".

Stipend based. The program provides homework tutoring and academic enrichment for participants ages 6-14 years old. The program focuses on improving core subjects such as reading, writing, and math while also facilitating activities and building positive relationships to help students develop confidence, leadership and self-esteem. Program staff collects student report cards, engages in youth goal-setting, and meets with parents bi-annually to track student progress. Provide homework help and academic mentoring for youth (most enrolled at CPS schools) who may not often receive the individualized attention they need. Provide a safe space for youth to engage in positive behaviors and develop life skills. Engage in activities designed to build self-esteem, encourage positive development, strengthen community, and provide opportunity for creativity. Expose youth to positive, motivated role models. Create a safe space where youth feel safe expressing socio-emotional issues. Engage with families around youth academic issues, study strategies, and school involvement. Spend this fall learning about how to take amazing photos and traveling to neighborhoods across the city! In this session, we will take three field trips to explore the city and learn more about the history of Chicago. Some of the neighborhoods we will have traveled to in previous sessions are Pilsen, Uptown, Hyde Park and Bridgeport. Though journaling, map drawing & exploring you will create a tour of your neighborhood and use photography to tell your story. Possible group projects include a video slideshow, website & blog work.

In this program, teens will learn more advanced throwing and hand building techniques as well as the chemistry behind glazes and how to load kilns.

Want to learn to make your own avatar? This program introduces teens to concept and fantasy art. Teens will learn to research, develop, and execute artwork through personal and group brainstorming, iteration, and critique. Over the 10 weeks, teens will go through concept-to-actual character pipeline that they will be able to apply to any other activity in their lives.

If you answered yes, then, Chess WERKS is a pathway for teens to discover a world where science, logical reasoning, visualization, strategy & execution, as well as competition are all fused creating the Royal Game of Chess. Upon completion of the course, teens will have gained an understanding of the game of chess; contextual knowledge of the essential principles of the game, and their correct way of using, as well as assess various situations and game combinations. Students will work on a production crew and will have the opportunity to use their voice to make a positive impact in the community.

Program activities include: Digital Film Production & Editing, Sound Design, Screenwriting & Storyboarding, Digital Art & Graphic Design, and Social Media. Students enrolled in the program will work under the direction of industry professionals and receive professional/career guidance. Participants will make a direct impact on their community, while learning how to create digital media content.

Stipend based. CMAA is seeking part-time youth tutors to provide hands on support for CMAA’s Diverse Young Leaders after school program. Youth tutors will provide daily tutoring and homework help services for 7 hours per week. Core subjects include reading, writing, math, and science and work with youth directly. CMAA’s Diverse Young Leaders after school program serves Asian American, Black, African American, and Hispanic youth from low-income immigrant and refugee families, focusing on K-8th grade. Candidates will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and be able to work with students both one-on-one and in small groups. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn about and engage in various ethnic and low-income communities in the Chicagoland area, gain exposure to the nonprofit sector, and to contribute to a high-energy team dedicated to supporting Uptown’s local immigrant, refugee, and minority youth populations. Youth tutors will be responsible for: assisting students with homework; preparing lesson plans, worksheets, and additional classroom materials; planning extracurricular activities as needed; and monitoring youth directly. Youth tutors will be providing one-on-one and group homework help over two to three shifts per week. Tutoring subjects include but are not limited to math, English/language arts (mainly reading, spelling, grammar, and essay writing for older students), science, and social studies. Youth tutors will be asked to build strong, positive relationships with CMAA’s youth clients and their families. Youth tutors may also be asked to complete other duties as assigned by CMAA's Program Manager of Youth Services.

Our goal is to build computer science capacity. Students begin with the Design Thinking process and brainstorm mobile and web apps they can build that solve everyday community problems. Students then learn User Interface/User Experience Design to build and test their prototype apps. Students then learn programming fundamentals to build apps with Python. Finally, students learn Sales and Marketing basics. At the end of the program, students have experienced the full app development process and leave with a fully functioning application. Additionally, students leave with confidence for tech skills and the understanding of the many career opportunities in tech. Our methods focus on (1.) project-based learning, (2.) career-based skills training and (3.) future readiness. First, students retain more when their learning connects to their lives and when they engage with the content as they learn. We show how tech skills can solve community problems that are relevant to everyday lives. Second, students are exposed to the fastest-growing, in-demand career opportunities and learn from leaders in those fields. Colored Girls are Cover Girls utilizes poetry, spoken word, theater, music and other forms of cultural expression as means to create change, impact lives, build relationships and stimulate growth among teenage girls of color. Teens learn to write creatively, passionately, powerfully and unashamedly and use their stories as valuable tools to educate their peers and communities on issues directly relating to inner-city teenage girls such as: violence, absent fathers, body image, adolescent sexual health and interpersonal communication. Our program genuinely believes that lives can be changed and relationships can be repaired through the art of spoken word.

Explore interactive theater techniques and hone your voice as actors and citizens! The Community Actors Apprenticeship is oriented toward social justice and positions teen performers as powerful actors in both art and society. This apprenticeship cultivates teen creativity, social development, and leadership and inspires them to make a positive difference. Teens work together to create a short play or collection of scenes that respond to community issues and organize an accompanying public event.

Stipend based. Teens will be working with youth ages 5-13 enrolled in our summer camp. Teens will be responsible for supervision of youth and working with year-round staff to provide a safe and fun environment for our members. Teens will also be responsible for working in a team setting to better serve our young members. Teens will be asked to share ideas for games, crafts or any other activities with a focus on Covid-19 safety protocols for activities. Teens will be responsible for leading their group of youth with the activity they worked on. They will be responsible for gathering and supplies needed, to instructing the youth and then executing their planned activity. In addition to working with youth teens will get hands on career readiness skills as they will be working on time management, communication with various age groups, including but not limited to youth, peers, executive staff and year round staff, team building, conflict resolution, interview readiness and group work.

In Community Influenced Pop Art teens complete small assignments merging elements from their environment/community with traditional painting techniques. Assignments may include portraiture, color wheels, caricature, and collages and emphasize individual artistic and creative growth. At the conclusion of the program each teen will have an individual portfolio of vibrant contemporary pop art that is relevant to the community and will have worked together with the whole team to create a group mural.

Contemporary Painting Studio is a combination of fundamental drawing and painting instruction and an investigation of how contemporary artists use various subjects to convey narrative, history, identity and metaphor through the visual arts. Teens develop a strong fundamental technical knowledge of the visual arts and learn how to apply those skills to create work that is professional, provokes thought, and encourages positive dialogue on the state of our community. Teens are encouraged to find visual resources that reflect their authentic voice, centered around the theme of Chicago as community. Teens learn the importance of voice, audience, intent, imagery, and organization in writing through discussion and analysis of works from a diverse group of published authors as well as by sharing their own original work with the group on a weekly basis. The teens also read their stories at venues throughout the City of Chicago.

Creator teaches teens how to use raw materials and their creativity to make "something out of nothing" and "jewelry out of anything." Teens learn a variety of jewelry making techniques and business marketing skills. Teens exhibit their pieces and develop a portfolio of their work.

Career portfolios include paper/video/QR code resumes, cover letters and mock interviews. Instructors provide hands-on learning experiences customized to prepare each teen to attain their career goals through career readiness and professionalism training and increased technical skills. Teens showcase what they learn through a final public presentation highlighting their experiences in the Digital Imagination program.

Learn to make your own movies in CTVN’s Digital Video Production program. In this remote program, apprentices will learn the skills needed to tell their stories using mobile devices for video production. Apprentices will work on both collaborative and individual projects in a variety of styles, including documentary, narrative, and animation. Learn to collaborate and think creatively to create a final longer movie.

Engage in all aspects of video production suitable for broadcast, web-cast, and public screenings! Teens learn digital video camera operation, lighting, sound recording, interview techniques and video editing computer software. Teens apply these skills to produce videos based on complex narratives they write based on issues of immediate concern to their communities, During production, each teen completes specific tasks that build their technical or storytelling skills and aids the team in the completion of the finished video.

Participants in Taft's Digital Video Production program focus on video production. Teens learn the fundamental skills and techniques of creating professional video including using the latest software and technology including Adobe Premiere Pro, HD camcorders, & studio-quality audio gear. If you are interested learning about music production and mixing this may be the program for you. In the Foundations of Deejaying program, teens will learn the art of selecting and mixing music for a variety of events, occasions and audiences. These fundamentals are transferable to several industries including music production, film, television and radio. Additionally, teens will be exposed to the social aspects and professional soft skills required to be a successful deejay.

A DJ program that will teach participants foundational skills to basic beat matching, mixing and a general understanding of various DJ equipment, including: controllers, mixers, and sounds setup. This program is intended to give participants a holistic understanding of the culture of DJing by being able to physically participate (virtually) and being able to ask any and all questions that will better equip them with the necessary tools to grow in this craft.

The Drama and Musical Theater Program enables teens to explore the world of stage performance. Students develop performance and leadership skills in the areas of acting, singing, and dancing with additional opportunities for participation in sound, lighting, and stage crews. The program will culminate in a minimum of two and up to four performances for students, teachers, families, and the Brighton Park community.

In Drawing And Sketching Techniques we will be learning how to draw step by step various objects and subjects and will focus on different ways to approach a drawing with pen and pencil, colored pencils, markers or charcoals. Teens will also develop the skills of composition and blending and sketching their concepts on paper. By building the teens self awareness teens will be able to build on their self confidence and self worth. Through an array of guest speakers and field trips, Fashion Design there is also possibilities for potential mentorship, internship, and job opportunities; from Chicago’s local fashion industry to those in West African fashion markets.

Film Foundations: Video is focused on teens new to video production. Students will learn the fundamentals of film equipment, composition, scriptwriting, production, and editing. These skills will serve as a foundation for them as they create several short video assignments on their own and put their knowledge into action. Several films will also be screened for teens in order to teach film critique and give inspiration for their assignments. Students of this class should walk away with a better understanding and confidence of video, ready for the next step of creating short films.

Film Making 101 is a program that covers the role and responsibility of a director in script development, pre-production, production and post production. Teens learn to tell a story cinematically, use the camera as a tool, prepare a script analysis and engage in the casting and rehearsal process with actors.

Through a mix of mindful awareness, environmental explorations leveraging observation in nature, activism and civic engagement, teens will gain personal resilience practices, an understanding of environmental justice issues facing Chicago, tools to identify park and community needs, and practical ecological skills such as plant and tree identification and an innovative nature-asset-based model to view their local communities. Free Spirit Labs is a media arts and journalism program. High school participants gain skills in camera operation, audio engineering, performance, writing, editing and photography.

Handbuilding is an ancient pottery technique that involves using your hands and simple tools to form slabs, pinch, and coil clay into useful objects or sculptures. In this program, teens will learn how to make and decorate functional objects by applying these simple handbuilding techniques to fun projects. Students will leave the session with the confidence to navigate a ceramics studio, knowledge of how to professionally photograph their 3-D creations, art portfolio building, awareness of creative careers, college research basics, and several objects they will be proud to use in their everyday lives.

Future Barbers works to expose our 15 young men to the fundamentals of the art of barbering. Through Weeks 1-6, our teens will diligently work to understand the basics of being a professional barber under the guidance of driven, experienced, local, professional barbers. Through workshops, field trips to barbershops, and hands on experiences with barber equipment, our motivated students will learn the history and culture of barbering; hygienic and safe practices; how to use tools and equipment; basic cutting techniques; professional conduct in a barbershop; and more. They will use peace circles to engage in conversation while building meaningful relationships. Barbering is an important art to continue to inspire interest in because the barbershop is a crucial mentorship outlet for men and a participatory, safe and supportive environment. This project-based learning engages our students through hands-on activities in understanding how barbering has evolved to be a 21st century trade and how current innovations continue to improve the craft. We aim to show that learning a trade is a dynamic process while imparting real world skills. They will put theory into practice doing something that captures their interest and provokes thought.

Interns will help with all areas of program delivery including taking attendance, execution of activity plans, and reporting. There will also be opportunities to assist with administrative tasks and field trips. Teens work alongside industry professionals to install a Bricolage mural using newly acquired knowledge of public art design and traditional mosaic. Calling all composers! Guitars Over Guns is teaming up with Curie Metro High School to offer a 6 week workshop in songwriting, performance and peer mentoring. Join mentors and practicing songwriters Andrew DeMuro & Phil Jacobson, members of local band ‘The Shades’, to learn how to write songs in popular styles including rock, pop, and Latin fusion; conduct and lead an ensemble of musicians; and learn mentoring best practices. All students will receive a composition book, a subscription to Soundtrap and an instrument of their choice for at-home practice.

My program is focused on exposing our feeder elementary students to a better education, studying habits, future opportunities for high school, college and careers. Our teens will be tutoring and mentoring our 3rd ,6th ,7th and 8th grade students. This program will also focus on our tutors (teens) and teach them to have patience, be supportive and be able to work and lead other people. The grades selected were considered to have the greatest need because these are the grades that retain students. Students will learn communication, leadership, dependability, and teamwork, skills. Overall, I hope to achieve healthier, resilient students on all levels and to uplift the Roseland community with more educational resources.

HHW Theater offers teens who are diverse learners the opportunity to explore the performing arts. Teens engage in music, theater, and movement activities centered in a staged performance. The program culminates in a costumed theater performance on a professional stage.

Teen apprentices in the Hyde Park Art Avengers Illustration program learn about the creative process of a comic book. Teens learn the basics of sketching, drawing, storyboarding, editing and publishing and learn poster, brochure, and product design. Mural painting. Teens compose visual narratives to support compelling stories included in comic books. For a final project teens create original group and individual comic books, as well as a poster, brochure & final product design of their choice.

This online program will consist of participants will learn basic to intermediate-advance (depending on skill level and experience) speech drama, ballet, jazz, modern, ethnic, inspirational hip hop and character dancing. The performances will consist of a theme or plot that reflects a positive life skill message through dialogue and interpreted in dance routines. Participants will build their confidence by practicing scripts, speeches, and dance movements which consist of encouraging words and interpretive dance movements that will increase self-esteem, improve physical fitness and endurance while developing good work ethics through responsibility and commitment. The Introduction to Cake Decorating program introduces teens to the art and science of decorating cakes to a professional standard. The program will include kitchen safety, recipe reading and production, baking, cake fillings, icing, piping, and common decorating techniques. Teens will have the opportunity to develop artistry and the course will culminate in designing and producing a final showpiece.

This program is beginner and multilevel friendly. The program covers drawing and painting fundamentals with an introduction to visual art practices. We will learn about historical and contemporary artists, understand traditional techniques, and conceptual forms of making. This project provides an opportunity for teens to propel traumatic loss into a positive part of their community.

Teens in J-Def Peace Project learn important life skills such as team work and commitment. Teens will be working on school year projects around Solorio High School.

Teens learn from and work with a professional artist to create art that speaks to the community. They address youth violence and loss and raise awareness of peace and conflict resolution through workshops and group discussions. This apprenticeship is for both talented young artists and any teens who may no be an artist yet but have the aspiration to learn!

The Jazz Big Band works on pieces encompassing the entire range of jazz styles from swing to contemporary and everything in between. We have performances in various venues throughout the city including Fitzgerald's, the Pritzker Pavillion, and Daley Plaza. In addition to regular guidance by the instructors, there will be clinics held by guest artists. We typically work on about 25 to 30 pieces each program session, so some previous experience on your instrument is necessary. It's a great opportunity to work on sight reading, jazz improvisation, and improving your general playing ability.

Professional dancers teach students multiple styles of dance including Latin, jazz, hip hop fusion, contemporary, modern, and ballet. This program focuses on technique and learning new pieces of choreography each week. A field trip for a community performance and the final showcase give students the chance to share their success with family, friends, and community stakeholders. By the end of the program students have developed skills for personal mindset, planning for success, and collaboration.

Stipend based. Students will be trained how to produce media publications. We will focus on generating story ideas, writing/composing articles or blog posts; researching and gathering facts; reviewing/editing information for publication; attending local events (virtually or in person (per COVID19 guidelines); taking notes, gathering and recording information; taking still photographs; operating camera and/or sound equipment; and utilizing video editing and graphic design software. Internship coordinator will provide career readiness information (with guest speakers (resume development; LinkedIn profiles, etc.)

In King High School Band students will participate in an instrumental environment where teens will learn, interpret and perform music with the highest degree of quality. Teens will think critically, going over music theory, performance and lessons of peace. The program session will conclude with a concert where teens share sections of what they've learned.

In the K.L.E.O. Performing Arts program, teens will learn how to act and perform on stage while getting hands-on interaction with various types of stage and performance equipment. Teens will gain knowledge of the theater, music and entertainment industry and work together to refine their talent, support each other and enhance skills throughout the week with performance activities and competitions.

Who Am I? In this 10-week acting intensive class, students will learn the tools to analyze a script/text, building a character, making bold choices in scene, and taking big emotional risks with text they create on their own and a text that is given to them. This class teaches acting and techniques to build on the craft and also teaches the trust of self in order to get to those necessary places, emotionally, actors need to get to. If you have any interest in Stage/TV/Film acting, this is the class for you.

The Power of the Playwright- Through this 10 week playwriting intensives, students will unleash their unique poetic voices through the form of playwriting. Through workshopping and editing amongst their peers and instructor, students will learn what it takes to build character, plot, and dialogues while staying true to their styles as writers and thinkers. Over the course of 10 weeks, each student will complete their own short plays and will have them performed by professional actors at Kuumba Lynx's culminating event, Arts Explosion. If you are interested in writing plays, movies, or TV series, and are passionate about telling stories, this is the class for you.

Come dance, choreograph, create, collaborate, learn, and perform a full dance piece on stage this season! Through the Latin dance styles of bachata, salsa, merengue, cumbia, and cha, we will learn the techniques, choreograph combinations to hit music, express ourselves, and create our own works of art. (We will also be throwing in hip-hop and some reaggeton). The program will build confidence, grow your knowledge and dancing ability, increase physical strength, creativity, and celebrate culture and heritage. It will culminate in a final show for parents and friends!

"My program will focus on learning the foundation of various latin dance styles all while developing strong relationships, leadership skills, and lifelong learners. Each skill is centered around these five themes: unity, diversity, community, pride, and empowerment. Teens will learn the various styles and genres in Latin music- old and modern. Learn How to Code - The fun way! Teens design a website using html, css and we will also use a free open source tool. Computer skills are obtained along with the confidence to use them. Teens will also practice public speaking and be conducting mock interviews. This will help prepared them for job interviews and learn what a real interview entails. The importance of soft skills in the profession is also vital and will discuss and practice this as well. These lessons are designed to to help the teens of today acquire the necessary skills for the future.

Life skills are those skills that are necessary or desirable for full participation in everyday life. Students that require life skills instruction are affected by a large range of disabilities including an intellectual disability, autism, or other impairments. Despite the type of disability, individuals with a disability often lack the required skills to take care of themselves to the greatest extent possible. The most mundane of tasks that people without disabilities do daily without a thought such as wash dishes, hygiene routines, meal preparation, dressing, social awareness etc. are important skills that need to be taught and developed in a person with a disability. Life skills practice affords student the chance to foster independence, become active, contributing members of their household and society and largely impacts post-secondary success. This life skills program provides students with disabilities the simulated environment and space to learn to do basic day to day functional tasks and activities. In this program students will learn about social awareness and safety in the community, money skills, hygiene practices, simple food preparation, household chores and a wide array of other skills embedded into the life skills curriculum.

The Dazzling Knight Majorettes were established in 2015 to formulate a sisterhood made up of unique individuals that make up a creative whole. We also open our arms to aspiring male students. The Dazzling Knight Majorettes promote academic excellence, respect, self worth, confidence, and leadership through the love of dance. This summer we will offer an introduction to majorette dance as well as an abundance of experience and fun, while enhancing dance skills.

The Make Lab program will be a place to create, design, work to solve challenges, an opportunity to make mistakes, try something new, and test our new ways of "making" through different approaches and materials. Are you interested in engineering, 3D software, and printing, heat press, or other hands-on tools? As a group and as individuals, we'll implement our thinking and solution skills to make our community and better place to be in. Join the Make Lab program and inspire many with your solution skills!

This Mariachi Ensemble Apprenticeship provides a positive experience for teens who want to be part of a performing arts group. This group consists of teens with various levels of musical experience. This program allows teens to work together and learn about mariachi performance, history, culture, and tradition. The program teaches teens the music theory; instrument use, tuning, and maintenance; history of Mexico and Mariachi music; and the performance of Mariachi repertoire. All teens participate in a final performance as a Mariachi Ensemble.

Teens who join the Mariachi Ensemble learn about mariachi performance, history, culture, and tradition and work together to perform as a cohesive Mariachi Ensemble. The group consists of teens with various levels of musical experience, which requires an environment of peer mentorship, open communication, and group encouragement. By the end of the program teens develop both the musical and interpersonal skills to perform as part of a performing arts group.

Marillac Fine Arts is a theater apprenticeship that gives teens the opportunity to see first-hand the importance of commitment and team work in creating a performance piece. Teens have leadership roles in all aspects of the productions including designing and creating the sets, creating choreography for dance, script writing, directing as well as acting. Performances also include spoken word poetry and teens often focus on their own experiences with violence and stopping violence in the community.

The Marshall Debate Apprenticeship program draws on rhetorical theory and requires research into complex matters of public policy such as energy, the environment, and health care. By demanding research, evidence, and reasoning, debate pushes teens to understand contemporary political issues and to make informed, real-world decisions. The goal is to foster public speaking ability, encourage civic engagement, improve literacy skills, and develop leadership. The final presentation is a public debate in front of a crowd in which the program’s participants would be able to showcase all they have learned. Marshall Debate is open to all students, from novices to seasoned competitors.

Through interactive lessons, you will develop skills and strategies to learn how to cope with the day-to-day challenges of school, family, future planning and stress. You will learn about the tools for mindfulness that will bring balance to the areas of social awareness, self-management, interpersonal skills, responsible behavior and decision-making skills. You will engage in this work through various art projects such as vision boards, journaling, exercising in gratitude and appreciation. Additionally, you will learn yoga and meditation. You will tap into your inner artist and create canvases of inspirational quotes and affirmations like, “I am in flow with the Universe.” By the end of the program, you will develop a natural instinct within to reach for better and to dream what many would say is impossible.

MiniMed introduces students to various careers in healthcare and a future that is dedicated to helping others. Teens will be exposed to certification programs through City Colleges, and engage with health professionals through speaker events, site visits, job shadows, and internships that will advance their knowledge and experience in healthcare. Teens will learn about safety and infection control, CPR and first aid, human growth and development, vital signs, nutrition and wellness, and geriatric care.

This program is designed to introduce teens to martial arts in a fun and safe environment. The MMA program consists of alternating training days of Boxing, Muay Thai, Grappling (Wrestling/Jiu Jitsu/Judo), and Kickboxing instruction. Teens develop stand-up striking skills, ground technique, and an overall increased fitness level. Teens also learn self management skills, discipline, listening, and demonstrating cooperation and respect towards others.

In Mixed-Media Journaling, students will combine personal writing and collage techniques to create a sketchbook that is a documentation of their current hopes, fears, frustrations and dreams. The skills you will gain include: mixed-media techniques on paper, visually representing your writing, using reveal and masking strategies to create layers of meaning and giving/receiving authentic peer feedback. This is not an instructional drawing class; we will be working more abstractly and focusing on how textures, patterns and colors can communicate ideas effectively.

Do you play an instrument? Learn to play jazz in a fun and relaxing setting. We will also learn to create tracks and music production skills in SoundTrap.

Teens learn the mosaic technical artistic skills through the use of tools and materials to complete a public mosaic that reflects the people, places and events that young people encounter as citizens of Chicago. Teens work together on design, concepts and color to create a cohesive mosaic mural work that is sustainable and a source of pride for the teens and the community. Teens build leadership and cooperation skills through this group project.

Move Me Soul Advanced teaches participants about the value of artistic expression and empowerment. Teens learn how to participate in and produce a performance as well as create a portfolio. Workshops are designed to build upon confidence and improve performance so participants in Move Me Soul Advanced are expected to have basic dance skills and a strong work ethic in order to fully participate in the program. Teens have the possibility of integrating participants into the dance ensemble.

Move Me Soul teaches participants about the value of artistic expression and empowerment by integrating participants into their dance ensemble and other performing opportunities. Teens learn how to produce a performance and create a dance portfolio, and benefit from workshops designed to build confidence and improve performance. Participants are expected to have basic dance skills in order to fully participate in the program.

Move Me Soul is an artistic explosion of dance, spoken word and life skills. It is a dance company facilitated by youth that provides a positive sense of future by providing opportunities for creative expression and empowerment through dance and life skills enhancement. The goal of the program is to teach youth how to function as a dance company by providing leadership opportunities and empowerment through dance and life skills. Teens benefit from innovative dance and life skill workshops that provide them with tools that enhance their confidence and performance ability. By the end of the program teens know how to produce a dance performance and how to create a dance portfolio. The final product is a teen produced community dance performance. Teens work together with Move Me Soul and Set Design team to create final performances.

The goal of this 6-week long teambuilding activity is to strengthen character, promote the spirit of cooperation and to improve creative, interpersonal and communication skills. Our program will consist of a two part initiative, Music Education and Instrumental Instruction as well as our Audio Visual Recording Technology program. In our music program, teens will be taught basic music theory including scales, notes, rhythm, key signature and harmony in additional to Instrumental Instruction (learning to play instruments of the Brass, Percussion, Woodwind, Keyboard and Guitar Family). The Audio/Video program will produce a short film that will ultimately be a three to five minutes video of the students detailing behind the scenes of the music program.

Musical Theater Experience is a hands on approach to the wonderful art form of musical theater. Teens learn the basics of musical theater stagecraft by working on scenes and company numbers from various musicals to fine tune their skills as actors. Teens also engage in master classes and sometimes go on field trips to a variety of musicals. The session ends with a showcase performance for the public. Internship positions are available as a Stage Manager/Assistant Director, Assistant Technical Director and Dance Captain. Teens interested in an audition should prepare to sing: 32 bars of a musical theater song (think one verse and the chorus of a song). Sheet music is encouraged but not required. Teens should also prepare a 1-2 minute monologue or a 1-2 minute story about themselves.

Explore identity and authenticity of the self through various art mediums and concept design. In this course, we will investigate the process of how artists get their ideas and utilize different mediums to express themselves while creating life-altering artwork. Great course if you are considering going to art school!

Acting, scriptwriting, and guitar lessons- that is the NeuroKitchen Theater. NKarts will focus their remote learning workshops on developing an acting practice that is simple, naturalist, and powerful. NKarts will develop writing skills for creating monologues, plays, and TV scripts. NKarts will have guitar lessons and songwriting workshops. Acting and writing will be lead by Ron Bieganski (instructor in Steppenwolf Theater's professional training program), TV Scriptwriting by guest LA TV scriptwriter, actor, and director) and Andrew Holowka (professional guitarist and music teacher). Experience is not necessary. A desire to learn a creative process that leads to a vibrant, awake artist is. [A guitar, Ukelele, or bass will be needed for music workshops. Teens involved in the Door 12 Brass Band will learn and practice improvisational and stylistic techniques essential to the overall sound of jazz and brass ensemble. Students will delve into the culture of this uniquely American artform with rigorous studies of jazz and its natural transfer into the core of true Southern Brass Band playing. Kelly High School will provide multiple opportunities for performance and advancement throughout the school year.

In Drawing From Life, teens learn the fundamental skills necessary for representational drawing and painting. Teens utilize these skills to create original artwork with the help of professional artists. Working both individually and in groups, teens will complete and present original art with a final gallery show at the end of the year.

The focus of Nu Sound Studio is to develop 4-6 song EP projects, developing a stage presence, with emphasis on socially aware lyrics and content, the basics of the music business, 5-elements of hip-hop and the use of DAWS-Logic Pro X and or GarageBand to create and record songs. Students will explore many genres of music that came before Hip Hop and its influences on the genre.

*The first 5 weeks of this program will take place virtually, the second 5 weeks will take place in-person at Aguijon Theater Company. Teens in Nuestra Cultura develop theater performance skills throughout the program, beginning with a process of discussing, writing, playing and developing their own material based on their responses to poetic, theatrical and literary works by Latin American, Spanish and Latino writers. By working closely with program instructors and participating in group theatre exercises teens are immersed in understanding and maintaining strong character form, developing scenes and scenic transitions, and solidifying the vision for their final performance. All participants work together to transform the program experience effectively and fluidly into its final presentation - a live, open to the public performance to be held at Aguijon Theater.

This program is perfect for teens interested in developing their leadership skills and abilities by being trained as peer leaders. Teens will be trained to use Restorative Justice practices as a means to promote peace and unity in their community and among their peers. Teens will virtually engage with various public and private agencies, organizations and institutions that promote peace and unity in the Austin community, especially through the use of Restorative Justice Practices, as well as in other Chicago community areas.

Photo Explorations will help introduce participants to the basics of photography. We'll learn about how cameras work, and how photos have evolved as tools in our culture. Teens can expect to learn about technical aspects of photography and hone their own practice through weekly assignments and activities. In addition to hands-on learning, we will explore the work of photographers and artists. During the fall session, participants can expect to create photos, small zines, and share work in a culminating photo book. A willingness to communicate and share photos and experiences will be an important part of our classroom community.

Photography in Chicago will inspire teens to explore photography, through challenging photo assignments and field trips to Chicago art museums and galleries. Apprentices in this program will develop photographic skills in order to investigate and respond to the world around them through their cameras. The program will incorporate a hybrid of analog and digital activities, learning photography fundamentals, camera mechanics, and editing techniques. Apprentices will respond to prompts and writing activities to explore their personal spaces and communities through portraiture, still-life studies, and street photography. The program will also include field trips, discussions, and guest artist talks to develop critical awareness of the photographic medium and gain knowledge about the Chicago photo community and the photo industry.

Stipend based. Interns will act as the staff members of the Pilsen Alliance Youth Committee. They will recruit and facilitate youth in the neighborhood to design short-term projects (such as an activist campaign, event series, educational materials, etc.) and carry tasks through to the project's completion. Tasks might include: researching and securing event space, generating social media content to promote a project, creating strategy plans for an activist or marketing campaign, doing outreach through local schools and youth programs, connecting and collaborating with other youth activist organizations, and more. The youth committee will continue to have autonomy over what projects they pursue and how they pursue them, but youth staff and adult staff will have mutual accountability to one another. Adult staff will be accountable to regular check-ins to support and receive updates from youth, and youth will be accountable to being strong representatives of the organization, keeping up with tasks and work hours, and being committed to building youth power for social justice regarding all oppressed identities and experiences in and outside the neighborhood. Being from Pilsen or attending a school in Pilsen is not required, but it is preferred, but being from any neighborhood surrounding Pilsen is strongly preferred.

Audio podcasts are growing in popularity as a creative way to tell stories, have conversations, interview people you admire, and learn about pretty much anything you can think of. You will have the opportunity to work as a team to create an idea for a show and develop, record, and edit your first episode using digital audio and web-based technology. You will learn podcast production skills including research, interviewing, writing, and editing. We will have opportunities to practice verbal communication, storytelling, professional social skills, and creative self-expression. Our show, Power Your Story, publishes to popular podcast platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.

In Podcast Tech: Power Your Story learn how to use digital audio and web-based technology to produce your own podcast; a collection of short real-life stories and interviews that express your views and increase your knowledge of community, culture and the issues that matter most to you. Work with a team to choose story ideas and themes, use professional audio equipment to record them and then edit the finished product and add music so it is ready to publish online. By the end of the program, you be able listen to and share episodes of the podcast you helped to create using social media.

You will build skills in problem solving, collaboration and learn to plan for success. planning for success. You will also get the opportunity to participate in the VEX and Ten80 Competitions designed for remote learning.

Stipend based. Attend program and take attendance for facilitators, provide any necessary assistance to students. Create collateral, including but not limited to videos and photos  (with completed media release) and copy for social media posts. Fulfill other tasks set out by supervisors from different departments. Each intern has the  opportunity to be involved in multiple upcoming events and activities, as well as assisting with current campaigns.

Project SYNCERE's E-CADEMY is an engineering program that is designed to prepare students for enrollment in post-secondary STEM programs. In this program, teens will learn how to apply engineering skills to identify programs, create unique solutions and lead their own learning experience. Our goal is to provide a pathway of opportunities that brings like-minded students together, to motivate and prepare them to successfully pursue careers in engineering.

In Ray Graham Drumline teens learn drum specific techniques while enhancing their motor skills. It is a comprehensive and rewarding percussion music program designed to teach various drumming techniques. Teens will go through the fundamentals of percussion and develop the discipline required to work as a musical unit. Teens will participate in a final performance showcasing the skills and routines they learned throughout the program.

Teens in the Ray of Hope Music and Theater program use theatrical techniques to discover their inner beauty, strength, skill, and talent. As teens develop a greater sense of themselves and others, they create original music, plays, rap, dances, and spoken word as an outward expression of their unique role, from their point of view, in the community. The program includes sessions in the on-site recording studio, off-site performance opportunities, and a culminating event where they share their work with the greater community. The program includes job readiness and visits from professional artists, business leaders, educators, and local celebrities. Teens can connect with other youth across Chicago in related cross city activities and events.

Stipend based. Support with meal distribution, teen led newsletter, support with teen communication, support with temp check and teen check in to the building as well as support with other related tasks.

RECESS Youth Improv engages students in the same exercises and games practiced by comedians like Kate Mackinnon, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Keenan Thompson. Students develop awareness, listening, and leadership skills that are essential to performance and personal development, all with a focus on community building and playfulness.

Stipend Based. Teens will intern as program assistants in RefugeeOne's after-school program for newly arrived refugee youth. Teens will gain experience planning and organizing activities, supervising and engaging youth, as well as serve as a positive role model for program participants. Daily responsibilities will include: - Tutoring youth participants, encouraging youth to participate in enrichment activities, and assisting with set-up and clean-up for program materials. This internship provides a great opportunity for those interested in careers working with youth, cross-cultural experiences, translation, or non-profit organizations. Must be available at least two days a week, Monday - Friday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Remote opportunities for work also available if necessary.

RhthymWERKS xBBF is a performance art apprenticeship that teaches about rhythm-based dance including tap, hip hop, breaking, line, and mahogany dance. Youth apprentices will learn the proper dance steps and form while being introduced to the roots, origins, and standout stars of these popular dance forms. Apprentices will build their social skill set (passion, perseverance, determination, discipline, communication, positivity, and respect for self and others) through rhythm-based dance by planning, choreographing, and producing a dance performance, developing business and entrepreneurial skills, and learning to collaborate with co-workers, understand their employer, and properly interact with their supervisor (instructor) while creating an individual portfolio and group performance.

Teens learn the physical and professional components of amateur boxing in order to prepare them to become youth coaches, instructors or officials. Teens learn effective coaching techniques, methods of group management and sports instruction fundamentals while developing goal-setting, teamwork, leadership and communication skills. After the fourth week of program, teens create their own lesson plans to run weekly practicum sessions for youth in the community between the ages of 6-12.

Teens learn about bicycle maintenance and repair, safe riding and cycling for sport, exercise and transportation. The group will go on rides to many different destinations, complete a resume and have the opportunity to earn a bike, bike parts, accessories and gear. Teens that successfully complete the program are then eligible for Summer employment with the Chicago Park District and West Town Bikes.
